Tigers Woods told reporters on Friday that his 15-year-old Charlie Woods has already beaten him over nine holes of golf— and that he believes an 18-hole defeat is coming eventually.

"He beat me for nine holes," Woods said, per Doug Ferguson of the Associated Press. "That day is coming. I'm just prolonging it as long as I possibly can."

Woods played on Friday alongside his son during a pro-am ahead of the PNC Championship. The pair has competed in the annual two-player team tournament since 2020.

Charlie Woods is returning to the tournament amid his second year playing for The Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Florida. He helped his team finish second in the Florida state golf championship in November.

He first attempted to qualify for a PGA Tour event in February, but missed the cut after he shot 16-over during a pre-qualifying event for the Cognizant Classic.

The younger Woods then missed out on the 2024 U.S. Open after finishing 61st in a qualifying event that sent the top five finishers to Pinehurst.

Tiger Woods meanwhile said on Friday that he believes he has a "long way" to go before his own return to the PGA Tour. He underwent back surgery in September, the latest in a series of procedures he has undergone since suffering injuries in a 2021 car accident.

Woods still walked 18 holes on Friday in his first time playing publicly since the surgery, marking his first step toward a return to competition.
