Georgia quarterback Carson Beck could be out the rest of the season after reportedly suffering a UCL injury in his right elbow.
According to Mark Schlabach and Chris Low of ESPN, the Bulldogs are preparing to play the entire College Football Playoff without their starting quarterback, adding it is "unlikely" Beck returns this season.
Beck is also "exploring surgery options" for the injury.
Pete Nakos of On3 first reported the quarterback was expected to miss the quarterfinal matchup on Jan. 1.
Beck suffered the injury after he got hit while attempting to throw a Hail Mary pass on the final play in the first half of his team's 22-19 overtime win over Texas in the SEC Championship Game on Dec. 8. Backup Gunner Stockton took over for Beck.
Beck came back in the game for the final play after Stockton took a big hit. He handed the ball off to Trevor Etienne, who rushed for a four-yard touchdown in overtime to cap Georgia's big win at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
That's where Georgia will return for the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1 against either No. 7 Notre Dame or No. 10 Indiana, who play each other on Friday evening in South Bend.
Stockton appears like QB1 for that game. He did well in Beck's place, completing 12-of-16 passes for 71 yards. Stockton did throw a costly fourth-quarter interception, but he did guide Georgia to an overtime touchdown, notably completing three passes for a first down before later rushing eight yards to get the Bulldogs down to the Texas four-yard line.
Nakos noted Beck had not been practicing with the team:
"Beck was not at practice again on Thursday, as On3's DawgsHQ reported. The quarterback has not been with the Georgia team since it returned to practice and workouts late last week.
"The Bulldogs are slated to play the winner of Notre Dame and Indiana in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1. Beck was not at practice again on Thursday, as On3's DawgsHQ reported. The quarterback has not been with the Georgia team since it returned to practice and workouts late last week."
As for now, the Bulldogs await to see whether favored Notre Dame or underdog Indiana will travel to New Orleans on New Year's Day.
