The New York Jets are going to be one of the most interesting teams of the 2025 offseason. The Aaron Rodgers rumors have been swirling throughout the season and a 4-10 record going into Week 16 has Gang Green looking at the draft order instead of the playoff picture.
The draft does represent some hope, though. After firing Joe Douglas and Robert Saleh the team will have a new general manager and head coach. The draft will be one of a few major opportunities to start shaping the team how they see fit.
Going into the week, the Jets would have the eighth pick if the draft were to be held today, per Tankathon. However, there's a lot that could happen over the final few weeks of the season that would change things.
At 4-10, the Jets are behind a five-team pack of 3-11 teams. A loss to the Rams at home this week combined with a few losses from them would improve their playoff positioning.
Here's a look at where things stand right now and a few results they should be hoping for.
Current Top 10 Draft Order
1. Las Vegas Raiders (2-12)
2. New York Giants (2-12)
3. New England Patriots (3-11)
4. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-11)
5. Carolina Panthers (3-11)
6. Tennessee Titans (3-11)
7. Cleveland Browns (3-11)
8. New York Jets (4-10)
9. Chicago Bears (4-10)
10. New Orleans Saints (5-9)

Where the Jets Stand
As noted previously, the Jets sit at No. 8 in the draft order. It's not a bad spot to be picking from, but it might not be an ideal slot if the Jets are planning on drafting a quarterback.
A lot of that could depend on how Aaron Rodgers finishes the season and if he's even interested in coming back next season. It might also depend on how the Jets new general manager views this class of quarterbacks.
The latest top 10 mock draft from Brent Sobleski had the Jets taking Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe with the seventh overall selection. However, Dame Parson put a second-round grade on Milroe in his scouting report.
If the Jets want to improve their chances of landing either Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders they are going to have to make a drastic move up the board. If not, a higher pick would at least give them the option to trade down and acquire more picks.
Outcomes to Root For
Giants over Falcons
This is probably the biggest one. If the Jets can manage to bypass their New York City counterpart they would actually be in prime position to draft Cam Ward. That's probably the best case scenario as he's the top riser in this draft class and a top five pick. The Falcons have lost four of their last five games so it's not out of the realm of possibility that the Giants could pull the upset.
Panthers over Cardinals
The Panthers are one of several three-loss teams that need to win to give the Jets a chance to get in the mix. If you're looking for optimism here, the Panthers are at home and Bryce Young is running out of chances to prove that he should be the quarterback moving forward. Maybe that's enough to spark an inspired performance.
Titans over Colts
Tennessee only has three wins, but they showed a lot of fight last week in a 37-27 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. The offense looked much better with Mason Rudolph getting the call to go in at quarterback. Rudolph is expected to start on Sunday so that could be enough to beat a Colts team is 2-5 over the last seven games.
Jaguars over Raiders
This is the game of the week when it comes to draft order. The Raiders are currently in pole position to have the No. 1 pick. It feels like Shedeur Sanders is destined to don the Silver and Black. However, the Jaguars are a three-win team who are now starting Mac Jones so anything is in play here. It probably benefits the Jets for the Jaguars to win because there's a better chance they can still surpass Jacksonville in the draft order.
Patriots over Bills
This is the most unlikely result of the games that can help the Jets. In reality, fans don't want to root for either AFC East rival to win a game, but the Patriots pulling off the upset would be embarrassing for the Bills and even the Jets and Patriots records so there's that.
Browns over Bengals
It's not been a good year to root for Ohio teams this season. The Browns and Bengals have combined for nine wins. The Benals have the upper hand, but the Browns haven't been swept by Cincinnati since 2017 and have won six of the last nine.
