Aaron Rodgers Will Evaluate NFL Future in Offseason 'Unless I Get Released' by Jets

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers remains noncommittal on his future in the NFL.

Per Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, Rodgers said Wednesday that he'll take some time after the season to decide what he wants to do "unless I get released right away." He added that even in a scenario where the Jets do release him, he still plans on taking some time to decide his NFL future.

Rodgers' comments on Wednesday echo his sentiments from last month when he expressed uncertainty about whether he will continue his playing career following a disappointing 2024 campaign.

"I don't even know if I want to play yet, but New York would be my first option," Rodgers said at the time.

After returning from a torn Achilles that cost him virtually the entire 2023 season, Rodgers led the Jets to a 2-1 start, but the positive vibes quickly dissipated as the team continued its perennial struggles. Now at 4-10, New York will be searching for a new general manager, a new head coach and possibly a new quarterback during the upcoming offseason.

Rodgers, who admitted to being banged up throughout the year, is coming off one of his best performances of the year with 289 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in this past Sunday's 32-25 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jets interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said the 41-year-old's performance was indicative of his return to full health.

"He struggled with injury for a good part of the season, and, as he's starting to get healthier, you're starting to see Aaron Rodgers -- the real Aaron Rodgers," Ulbrich said Monday, adding that he believes the veteran signal-caller is good enough to play at least two more seasons.

While speaking Wednesday about the struggles of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins, who is also coming off a torn Achilles from the 2023 season, Rodgers expressed optimism that Cousins would be better in 2025 thanks to being two years removed from the injury. However, when asked if he expects the same results for himself, Rodgers didn't fall into the trap.

"It's possible," Rodgers initially answered before adding, "I might be on the beach, though."

Rodgers and the Jets will be hosting the Los Angeles Rams (8-6) on Sunday.
