The Golden State Warriors aren't done making moves.
ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Saturday that the Warriors are continuing to search for a star on the trade market after acquiring point guard Dennis Schröder in a deal with the Brooklyn Nets.
"I'm told they remain active in the hunt for a star player, and they can aggregate Schröder's contract in a bigger move later this season," Charania said on NBA Countdown.
Golden State sent De'Anthony Melton and three second-round picks to Brooklyn in exchange for the veteran guard.
The Warriors also received a future second-round pick as part of the deal.
With Melton out for the rest of the season after undergoing ACL surgery, Schröder gives Golden State a backcourt option who can score both on and off the ball while having 68 games of playoff experience under his belt.
In 23 appearances this season, he's averaging 18.4 points and 6.6 assists per game while shooting 45.2 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from three-point territory.
Schröder isn't guaranteed to finish the regular season on the Warriors, as ESPN's Bobby Marks noted that his expiring salary can be combined with other players in a separate deal prior to the Feb. 6 trade deadline.
Golden State hasn't been shy about its interest in finding another star to pair with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
The Warriors pursued Utah Jazz All-Star power forward Lauri Markkanen over the summer, but a trade didn't materialize. Markkanen ended up signing a five-year extension worth $238 million with the Jazz, meaning that he can't be dealt until the 2025 offseason.
Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler could be an option, as he's rumored to be open to a trade with a $52.4 million player option looming. NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the Warriors are believed to be the most likely team to have "substantive trade talks" involving Butler.
While Schröder should help the Warriors as they attempt to secure a playoff spot for the third time in four seasons, Golden State is still eyeing a star to fit alongside Curry.
