Sugar Bowl 2024: Latest Odds, Prediction for Georgia's CFP Quarterfinal Game

Joe Tansey

The Georgia Bulldogs earned a spot in the Sugar Bowl as the SEC champion and No. 2 overall seed in the College Football Playoff.

Georgia put its title credentials on the table in the SEC Championship Game, as it beat the Texas Longhorns for the second time this season.

Kirby Smart's team will face some questions, though, ahead of the New Years' Day matchup in New Orleans.

Quarterback Carson Beck suffered an arm injury in the SEC title game. Backup Gunner Stockton helped the Dawgs win in Atlanta and he could be poised to start against either the Indiana Hoosiers or Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Indiana and Notre Dame will square off on December 20 to determine which team will meet Georgia in the quarterfinals.

Latest Sugar Bowl Odds

Indiana vs. Georgia (-6.5)

Notre Dame (-1.5) vs. Georgia

Georgia is projected to be a clear favorite if it is matched up with Indiana, but as of now, it would be an underdog against Notre Dame.

Indiana is an underdog of more than a touchdown in its matchup with Notre Dame. That spread was affected by how poorly the Hoosiers did against the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The Hoosiers fell by 23 points in Columbus on November 23. That was by far their biggest test of the season.

Meanwhile, Notre Dame has rolled its opponents since losing to the Northern Illinois Huskies in Week 2.

The Fighting Irish scored at least 28 points in all of their victories since Week 2 and hit the 49-point mark in four of their last five games.

Notre Dame's offense at full strength would pose a massive challenge to the UGA defense, and if the SEC side is without Beck, it might not be able to keep up with the No. 7 seed.

Even with Beck on the field, UGA's offense sputtered through a handful of games, including in its loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

On the other hand, Notre Dame's offense has been remarkably consistent , and it might have its way with any opponent it plays in the playoff.

The expectation is that no upset will occur in South Bend on December 20, and if that is the case, UGA will be a slight underdog.

Beck is dealing with a UCL injury, per On3's Pete Nakos, and while his status for the Sugar Bowl has not been determined yet, that's a worrisome injury.

Stockton displayed signs of potential in the second half of the SEC Championship Game. His performance should give UGA hope that it can win the Sugar Bowl.

However, Notre Dame has been the most consistent team among the three teams in UGA's quarter of the bracket, and if the Dawgs display any signs of weakness, they could be out of the playoff without a victory.

Prediction: Notre Dame beats Georgia in Sugar Bowl
