To the surprise of absolutely nobody, Scottie Scheffler won the 2024 PGA Tour Player of the Year award.

The PGA Tour announced as much Tuesday and noted he became the only golfer besides the legendary Tiger Woods to win the award in three consecutive seasons. Woods won the award 11 times during his career, including when he won it five straight times from 1999-2003 and three straight times from 2005-07.

While there may never be another golfer who can match peak Woods, Scheffler did his best impersonation in 2024.

All he did was win his second career green jacket at the Masters, defend his crown at The Players Championship, capture a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics and win the FedEx Cup. He won seven PGA Tour events in all and became the first player to win The Players, a major title and the FedEx Cup in the same season.

Scheffler also won signature events at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, RBC Heritage, Memorial Tournament and Travelers Championship while becoming the first player since Woods (2007) to win seven or more times in a single season.

It was quite a memorable year for Scheffler, and it even included a headline-making twist during the PGA Championship.

As Jenna West of The Athletic noted, he was arrested and jailed because of a traffic miscommunication ahead of the second round in Louisville, Kentucky, although he was released in time to tee off and shot a stunning 66 on his way to a tie for eighth place overall.

It was a shocking development, but Scheffler quickly bounced back and showed his dominant form throughout the year.

That form built toward the FedEx Cup title, where he won a $25 million bonus and brought his on-course earnings to $62.2 million for the season, per West.

Given his overwhelming success, there was no doubt who would take home the 2024 Player of the Year. According to the announcement, Scheffler received 91 percent of the vote for the award that is decided by PGA Tour member vote.
