NFL Playoff Picture Week 15: AFC, NFC Bracket Scenarios, 2024 Postseason Predictions

Erik Beaston

Four teams have already clinched a place in the NFL playoffs.

Detroit and Philadelphia have secured their spots in the NFC, while Kansas City and Buffalo are set in the AFC.

Everyone else is vying for a spot in hopes of making a Lombardi Trophy run, including two squads with rookies at the helm, both of which can damage the hopes of other teams if they get in.

Who are they and which other teams bear watching as the season heads down the final stretch?

Find out with this look at how things stand entering Week 15.

NFC Wild-Card Predictions

Don't look now but Sean McVay's Los Angeles Rams look like a potent offense capable of doing damage if they can find their way into the postseason.

The most obvious, and perhaps only, path there is via the NFC West crown.

The Rams sit 7-6, in second place in their division. With three divisional games looming and a game with the 3-10 Jets sandwiched in between, they will have every opportunity to finish the regular season out strong and vie for a playoff position.

With star wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua healthy, and quarterback Matthew Stafford coming off of a 320-yard, two-touchdown performance against the Buffalo Bills, that potent Rams offense appears to have come alive.

The question is whether the team can beat a tough-but-depleted Niners squad, an Arizona team that embarrassed them earlier in the season and a Seattle team they have beaten but is rolling at the right time.

It is doable, but a tough stretch nonetheless. It's one that will require the defense, a liability in Sunday's win over Buffalo during which Josh Allen looked like an unstoppable force en route to six total touchdowns, to get to the quarterback and disrupt the opposing offense.

While this Rams team still seems a year away from being a legitimate contender, anything can happen when the playoffs start. That includes one more magical run for Stafford and more coaching excellence from McVay.

If not the Rams, the Commanders currently hold the advantage for the final seed in the NFC, a shocking turnaround for a team that had the No. 2 overall pick in April's draft for a reason.

Jayden Daniels has been a revelation, a rare rookie game-changer who has taken to offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury's scheme and shown no fear when it comes to pushing the ball down the field.

Like the Rams, that is the sort of "nothing to lose" squad that becomes doubly dangerous once Wild Card Weekend comes.

Prediction: Rams win the NFC West, Washington secures the final playoff position, but not until Week 18

AFC Wild-Card Predictions

Three of the best and most interesting teams in the AFC are the current possessors of the wild-card spots, and one would be hard-pressed to imagine them not staying that way.

The Baltimore Ravens are, arguably, the best 8-5 team in the league, with an electrifying offense behind Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry.

The Los Angeles Chargers have a franchise quarterback in Justin Herbert and a head coach in Jim Harbaugh who have them poised to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2022.

The Denver Broncos are a team that could easily move up in the wild-card standings, thanks to stellar play from rookie quarterback Bo Nix and a connection with wide receiver Courtland Sutton that leads the league since Week 8.

Outside of a major letdown by those squads, the worst that should happen is a reordering of the seeds.

The Indianapolis Colts, behind Anthony Richardson and Jonathan Taylor, would be the toughest team to hold off, but their defensive holes and the quarterback's inconsistent play make them a tougher team to forecast into the postseason at this point.

Prediction: Denver and Los Angeles trade spots, both make the postseason
