WWE Rumors on WarGames Injuries and Hikuleo's Debut; Carmelo Hayes Wants John Cena

High Spots Require Multiple Levels of Approval in WWE

WWE always makes sure to drive home the added danger matches like WarGames pose to the combatants. This year's edition played to type with multiple stars coming away with injuries from Survivor Series.

Tanga Loa (torn bicep), Bronson Reed (broken foot) and Jimmy Uso (broken toe) were all injured at Survivor Series. In the case of Reed, it was readily apparent in the moment when he got hurt. He landed feet-first when attempting a Tsunami from the top of the cage.

The risk in having the 6'0", 330-pound heavyweight leap from such a tall height is obvious, and Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp (via H Jenkins of Ringside News) offered some context for how high spots like that come together.

Sapp reported a wrestler will typically discuss the sequence with a producer backstage. Once that happens, chief content officer Triple H weighs in and often gives the final approval.

Talent call some of their spots on the fly based on how the action is flowing and how the fans are responding. But there are clearly limits to that.

Hikuleo Expected on NXT Soon

PWInsider's Mike Johnson reported in September that Hikuleo was placed on the internal roster for NXT rather than getting pegged for an immediate move to Raw or SmackDown from New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter's Dave Meltzer (via Matt Black of Wrestlezone), that remains the case. Meltzer said Hikuleo is working out at the WWE Performance Center and is expected for NXT.

WWE hasn't hesitated to place new signings immediately at the fore. Just within The Bloodline storyline alone, the trio of Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa and Jacob Fatu bypassed NXT and were inserted directly into the faction.

With Tanga Loa sidelined, there's a spot open in the group as well, one which Hikuleo would be a natural fit.

But the battle between the warring Bloodline factions seems to be winding down. The key figures and supporting players have long since been identified. To that end, WWE may not want to throw anybody else into the mix.

Hayes Teases Cena Match

During SmackDown on Friday night, general manager Nick Aldis told Carmelo Hayes he has a match lined up for him against a "very special" mystery opponent.

Hayes leaned into the intrigue on social media and tagged Aldis with some potential opponents. On that list was the Doctor of Thuganomics himself, John Cena:

Cena is approaching his WWE swan song, having announced he intends to retire in 2025.

It's unclear how the 16-time world champion will be utilized by the company, but he's reportedly going to work as many as 40 dates. That allows for WWE to book some big dream matches along with scenarios where Cena is elevating younger talent. Hayes, a former NXT champion, falls into the latter group.

Cena vs. Hayes would be a great clash of generations, just like when Cena crossed paths with Austin Theory at WrestleMania 39.

Fans shouldn't expect this to happen on SmackDown, but it's a matchup that could realistically happen at some point in the future.
