While Ohio State remains in the hunt for the College Football Playoff, fans probably aren't thrilled with the latest effort by head coach Ryan Day. Despite coming into Saturday's showdown with Michigan as heavy favorites, the Buckeyes lost to the rival Wolverines again.
Ohio State is now just 1-4 against its biggest rival under Day, though it appears that his job is safe, for now.
"We have a ton to play for," athletic director Ross Bjork said, per Bill Rabinowitz of the Columbus Dispatch. "We have a great team made up of talented players and great young men. Coach Day does a great job leading our program. He's our coach."
Day's dubious record against Michigan aside, he's done a good job of keeping Ohio State in the playoff hunt and perhaps an even better job on the recruiting trail. Heading into the early signing period, which will open on Wednesday, the Buckeyes have already landed several top 2025 recruits.
Let's take a look at where things stand.

Latest Loss to Michigan Won't Derail Recruiting Plans
Day's inability to beat the Wolverines is an obvious problem. Michigan took a big step backward this season following Jim Harbaugh's departure for the NFL. Yet, Michigan was clearly the more physical and better-prepared team during Saturday's 13-10 upset.
However, the prediction here is that Day's latest loss won't dramatically impact Ohio State's ability to land top recruits. This is still a playoff-relevant program with a track record of sending players to the NFL, and Day has received a vote of confidence for the time being.
Recruits shouldn't have to worry about any major program shake-ups and at least one has voiced support for the Buckeyes since their latest loss.
"You pick that side stay on that side," North Shore (Texas) tight end Devin Sanchez posted on X.
247Sports ranks Ohio State's 2025 recruiting class as the third-best in the country, behind only Georgia and Alabama. The Buckeyes should stay in that spot, even if Saturday's loss caused the program to lose a little luster.
The Buckeyes had appeared poised for a rematch with Oregon in the Big Ten Championship Game. Ohio State will now watch Penn State battle the Ducks instead.
Ohio State Will Remain an NFL Pipeline for Pass-Catchers
Sanchez wasn't the only future Buckeye to chime in after Saturday's loss. Bellefontaine (Ohio) quarterback Tavien St. Clair posted a trophy emoji and a picture of Ohio State's trophy room on X on Sunday.
St. Clair, it would seem, believes that more championships are in the future for the Buckeyes. St. Clair, the third-ranked QB recruit on 247Sports' board, has the potential to stabilize Ohio State's passing attack.
"Budding quarterback that has a chance to be special on Saturdays with his size, arm and mobility," Andrew Ivins of 247Sports wrote. "Has shown year over year improvement while playing smalltown Ohio-based football and should round into form after a developmental period in college."
If St. Clair develops into a top-flight college quarterback, it will undoubtedly help Ohio State's chances of remaining playoff-relevant. It will also help the Buckeyes remain one of the premier programs for future NFL receivers.
Ohio State's 2025 recruiting class already features Sanchez, 4star Bergen Catholic (New Jersey) receiver Quincy Porter, 4-star Ontario (Ohio) receiver Bodpegn Miller, 4-star DePaul Catholic (New Jersey) wideout De'zie Jones and 4-star Mission Viejo (California) receiver Phillip Bell.
Should one or two of these talented pass-catchers end up being first-round NFL draft prospects, it will surprise no one. Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Marvin Harrison Jr. were first-round selections in 2023 and 2024, respectively, and Emeka Egbuka may soon follow in their footsteps.
The Bleacher Report Scouting Department ranked Egbuka as the 12th overall prospect on their latest 2025 draft board.
