The Rock's Absence from Survivor Series Explained
Well, it's little surprise The Rock didn't show up for Survivor Series: WarGames on Saturday night. The 10-time world champion posted on Instagram that he visited Joint Base Pearl Harbor–Hickam in Hawaii this past weekend.
"My absolute honor to once again come back to scared land, and spend time with our soldiers and their families at JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM here in Oahu, Hawaii," he said.
WWE had The Rock walk out onto the entrance ramp to close out Bad Blood in October, a moment that seemed to signal he has unfinished business with Cody Rhodes and/or Roman Reigns.
Executing a similar moment at Survivor Series made sense in theory. The OG Bloodline and CM Punk defeating The New Bloodline should begin to wind that story down, and inserting "The Final Boss" into the picture would've pointed to a potentially epic conclusion.
Ultimately, the match stood on its own just fine and WWE has been teeing up a much different confrontation for Reigns. After Survivor Series, fans were left asking when his uneasy alliance with Punk unravels.
That intrigue could carry WWE into the Royal Rumble, when whatever plans it has for The Rock should become a little more clear.
Fatu Didn't Suffer Genuine Injury at Survivor Series
At one point in the men's WarGames match, Jacob Fatu missed the mark on a bad looking moonsault and immediately clutched his right leg. Some fans thought in the moment he may have been legitimately injured.
Fightful's Corey Brennan reported Fatu "was not planned to sell his leg so heavily" and that it was just a kayfabe injury and nothing serious.
It looks as though the former tag team champion simply reacted quickly to cover for a poor moonsault attempt. Fans were led to believe he might've blown out his knee, and that's what led to him landing well short of Punk. The focus shifted entirely from the suspected botch.
Fatu displayed plenty of veteran savvy in what was otherwise a throwaway moment.
Reed Potentially Injured Ankles on Tsunami from Top of the Cage
One of the big spots in the men's WarGames match saw Bronson Reed climb to the top of the cage and try to hit the Tsunami on Reigns. Punk pulled the Original Tribal Chief out of danger at the last moment.
Reed, meanwhile, landed awkwardly as his 6'0", 330-pound frame hit the mat feet-first. According to Brennan (via WrestlePurists), he may have legit injured one of even both of his ankles with the high-risk maneuver. He needed help to get backstage after the match, per Brennan.
Triple H said in the post-show press conference that Reed will be "questionable for a few weeks" after the missed splash.
It's anybody's guess as to what the aftermath of Survivor Series will look like for The New Bloodline. We probably shouldn't expect Reed to be a part of it for the time being.
