Reigns, Punk Unite and Top Takeaways of WWE Survivor Series: War Games 2024 Results

Erik Beaston

WWE presented the annual Survivor Series on Saturday night from Vancouver's Rogers Center. The event was headlined by two blockbuster War Games matches featuring the roster's biggest and brightest Superstars.

What went down at the final premium live event of the year and what were the biggest takeaways from a card that featured the likes of CM Punk, Roman Reigns, Rhea Ripley, LA Knight, and The Judgment Day?

Find out in this recap of the November 30 extravaganza.

Iyo Sky Still the MVP of War Games

Iyo Sky set foot inside War Games Saturday night at Survivor Series and for the sixth time in her Hall of Fame-worthy career, she stole the show.

The Genius of the Sky ramped up the action and energy of the match with her arrival, retrieving a trashcan and heading to the top of the cage. While she did not immediately pay off the introduction of the weapon, it set the stage for another breathtaking moment later on.

She did not disappoint. Stuffing herself into the can, she executed a picture-perfect moonsault from the top of the cage and onto the competitors below. The crowd erupted, the cameras caught her beaming with joy, and the result was one of the most unforgettable moments of the entire show.

Like Shelton Benjamin did for Money in the Bank matches, Sky has elevated expectations of the women's War Games match. Each year, fans expect some display of her soaring athleticism.

Sky has become synonymous with War Games. Whether it is her ability to thrive amid chaos or simply her fearlessness, the former WWE women's champion has unequivocally established herself as the MVP of the annual battle of attrition.

Rhea Ripley's Star Burning Brighter Than Ever

One thing was abundantly clear during Saturday's Women's War Games match: Rhea Ripley's star is burning brighter than ever.

Mami exploded into the match and the mood changed. Like Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, CM Punk, and Seth "Freakin" Rollins, her arrival enhanced the overall contest and injected it with star power matched by no other competitor.

Her natural charisma and aura set her apart from others.

The intensity with which she approaches her performances, either on the mic or in the ring, is second to none in the women's division and more reflective of her counterparts at the top of the men's roster.

Long tapped as the industry's future, she has arrived at that point and can be presented at the top of the card and be accepted in that role.

Barring an injury, something that plagued her in an otherwise sparkling 2024, Ripley will be at the forefront of WWE in 2025, right alongside the most prominent stars in the business.

Shinsuke Nakamura Completes Reboot with Historic Championship Win

Shinsuke Nakamura disappeared from WWE television for months, working exclusively on live events. A recent return and turn to the dark side had him riding a wave of momentum into Survivor Series. A loss to LA Knight would have risked his character's reboot and left him no better off than he was when he was last seen.

Luckily, that was not the direction in which things headed Saturday.

Nakamura dropped Knight on the steel connector between the two rings, his head bouncing off it. A Kinshasa later, The Artist secured his third United States Championship. More importantly, he entered the history books as the winner of the first WWE title change in Vancouver.

Beyond that significance, it indicates how dedicated Triple H and the creative team are to push him. Knight is one of the most popular Superstars on the roster. Beating him means something. This was a statement that the misuse of Nakamura over the years is not something the Chief Content Officer will continue.

It is about time.

Nakamura is a Hall of Fame-worthy competitor whose global influence is apparent. The one question mark on his resume is his utilization on the main roster. This is his (potentially last) opportunity to change that narrative.

Sheamus' Intercontinental Title Pursuit Is One of WWE's Best Stories

Since Cody Rhodes finished his story at WrestleMania 40, there is no title pursuit in WWE more emotional than that of Sheamus, who continues to chase the only title that has eluded him to this point in his career: the Intercontinental Championship.

Saturday night, the fans in Vancouver were solidly behind The Celtic Warrior and ready to watch him hoist that title overhead by defeating Ludwig Kaiser and Bron Breakker in a Triple Threat Match.

Until he did not.

Kaiser robbed Sheamus of the win, pulling the referee out of the ring during a pinfall attempt before pummeling the Irishman with a shillelagh.

Breakker would ultimately recover, blast the German with a spear, and put Sheamus away with the same for the successful title defense.

So close to winning the gold, Sheamus now will be forced to regroup and refocus his attention on acquiring that title and becoming a grand slam champion. Just barely missing out on the title on so many different occasions has only built greater sympathy for Sheamus and anticipation that he will one day achieve his goal and put the exclamation point on his Hall of Fame-worthy career.

He will achieve that moment and leave no doubt about his accolades. When he does, the crowd will be invested and ready to celebrate alongside one of the great, somewhat underrated and under-celebrated in-ring performers of this generation.

Damian Priest's Issues with The Judgment Day Are Far From Over

Damian Priest overcame a focused Gunther and an injured left shoulder to be in the proverbial driver's seat late in Saturday's World Heavyweight Championship Match when Finn Bálor interjected himself in the match.

With Priest down on the arena floor after falling from the top rope, Bálor emerged from the crowd and delivered a Coup de Grace from the ring steps, driving his body weight into the torso of The Archer of Infamy. Gunther retained his title moments later via referee stoppage.

The finish suggests Priest and Bálor are headed toward another battle, a more intense and definitive one than their previous showdown at Bad Blood.

There is reason to be hesitant with one's excitement for the inevitable showdown. The previous match was a one-sided squash that hurt Bálor's credibility and set the new Judgment Day's credibility back significantly.

If the next chapter of this story is similarly executed, it has no reason to exist. If it plays on that and continues to create doubt about Bálor's leadership in the group amid mounting opposition from Dominik Mysterio, it will be a much greater success.

CM Punk, Roman Reigns Overcome Tension, United for OG Bloodline Win

Amid tension thick enough to cut with a knife, CM Punk and Roman Reigns overcame obvious distrust to lead the OG Bloodline to a victory over Solo Sikoa and the new Bloodline in the War Games main event of Survivor Series.

It was clear early on that Reigns did not trust Punk and when he prevented the Straight Edge Superstar from entering the match, instead sending Sami Zayn, it was even more obvious. By the time Punk brushed past The OTC and entered anyway, there was plenty of reason to believe that the dislike might cost them the match.

Then Punk saved Reigns from a Tsunami and proved he could be trusted.

From there, the two former world champions demonstrated teamwork that helped the babyfaces to victory, including a Go To Sleep from Punk that set up the spear from Reigns that scored the win.

Was the handshake they shared after the match a sign of respect and appreciation from Reigns or the most hollow acknowledgment of Punk's help, as a narcissist might be inclined to provide?

That remains to be seen but on this night, they set aside any previous issues and earned a huge win that, if Michael Cole's call on the headsets is to be believed, did not settle the war between the two sides.

A great bit of storytelling throughout from both men that helped enhance what was one of the best War Games matches of this generation.
