Travis Hunter's Top NFL Draft Landing Spots After Colorado Star Announces Plans

Doric Sam

Colorado star wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter said Thursday that he "definitely" plans to enter the 2025 NFL draft after this season, and now the race is officially on for one of the most unique prospects ever to enter the league.

The two-way phenom has the chance to be the first player to play a significant role on both offense and defense, but he will need to land in the right situation in order to be the most effective.

Here's a look at some of the top landing spots in the NFL draft for Hunter.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are currently slated to have the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, and without a need for a quarterback thanks to the presence of Trevor Lawrence, they could improve their talent immensely by adding Hunter.

While the Jags used their 2024 first-round pick to draft a wide receiver in Brian Thomas Jr., they could still use an improvement to their receiving corps. The rookie leads Jacksonville with 42 catches, 689 yards and five touchdowns, while no other player on the team has over 400 receiving yards. Pairing Thomas with Hunter would give Lawrence a promising young duo to distribute the ball to, creating a headache for opposing defenses.

On the other side of the ball, Hunter would pair well with cornerback Tyson Campbell to shut down opposing receivers. Campbell, a 2021 second-round pick, signed a four-year, $76.5 million extension with the Jaguars before the 2024 season and is one of their top cornerstones on defense.

Getting drafted by Jacksonville would also allow Hunter to play in a familiar area, as he was born in West Palm Beach, Florida before moving to Georgia as a teen.

Hunter will need an innovative mind to deploy him correctly in the NFL, so two-time AP Coach of the Year Kevin Stefanski of the Cleveland Browns would certainly relish the opportunity to help develop the 21-year-old.

Despite the Browns' struggles this season, Stefanski has been able to get solid production out of former first-round pick Jerry Jeudy in his first year with the Browns after the wideout's disappointing run with the Denver Broncos. Cleveland also traded away veteran receiver Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills earlier this season, leaving a hole on the outside that Hunter would be a perfect fit to fill.

The Browns also have one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL in Denzel Ward. Cleveland's secondary would be even stingier with Hunter lined up on the opposite side of the three-time Pro Bowler.

For what it's worth, in his 2025 mock draft released on Thursday, ESPN's Matt Miller predicted that Hunter would land with the Browns.

Dallas Cowboys

This one could take some maneuvering, as the Dallas Cowboys currently don't have a pick in the first round that would be high enough to land Hunter. However, that's where Coach Prime comes in.

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders declared earlier this month that he won't hesitate to work behind the scenes for both Hunter and his son, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, to ensure that they land in the right situations in the NFL. It wouldn't be a surprise if he helped steer one of them to the Cowboys, with whom he won a Super Bowl title in 1995.

Dallas signed quarterback Dak Prescott to a massive extension just a few months ago, so it's unlikely that the team would pursue a signal-caller with its first-round pick. The prospect of pairing Hunter with star receiver CeeDee Lamb and star cornerback Trevon Diggs could be enough to influence team owner Jerry Jones to make a move up the board to land him.

Joining the Cowboys would put Hunter in one of the biggest markets in the NFL, giving him the chance to achieve immediate stardom at the pro level.
