In their first title defense since finally becoming AEW world tag team champions last month, Private Party beat The Outrunners, Kings of the Black Throne and The Acclaimed in a four-way tag team match to retain the titles at Full Gear on Saturday night.
In a chaotic free-for-all, Private Party emerged victorious after The Outrunners' Turbo Floyd disrupted a potential win for The Acclaimed, creating the opening for Private Party to hit Gin n' Juice and pin The Acclaimed for the win.
Despite being AEW originals from back in 2019, Private Party was never able to capture gold until the Fright Night edition of Dynamite on Oct. 30.
On the heels of falling just short in an AEW World Tag Team Championship match against The Young Bucks at WrestleDream, Quen and Zay got another shot a couple of weeks later.
Private Party made good on that opportunity by beating The Young Bucks, and they even earned the respect of the executive vice presidents in the process, as Matt and Nick Jackson embraced them when the bout was over.
In many ways, it was a full-circle moment for Quen and Zay, who shocked The Young Bucks in the first round of the tournament to crown the first-ever AEW world tag team champions in 2019.
Following Private Party's huge victory, a series of No. 1 contender's matches were held to determine who they would defend the titles against at Full Gear.
In order to qualify for the title match, The Outrunners defeated Top Flight, Kings of the Black Throne surprised FTR and The Acclaimed got past Rush and The Beast Mortos of La Facción Ingobernable.
Given the long and difficult road Private Party had to traverse in order to become champions, it was perhaps fitting that their first title defense was against three of the best teams AEW has to offer.
Like Private Party was until recently, both The Outrunners and Kings of the Black Throne entered Full Gear looking to become AEW world tag champs for the first time, whereas The Acclaimed were attempting to become multi-time champions.
Despite the high level of competition placed in front of them, Private Party were victorious on Saturday, and they are now poised to potentially have a long and successful first reign as tag team champions.
