Connor Stalions, the former Michigan staffer who resigned from his post for his role in the school's sign-stealing scandal, is currently working as an assistant on the coaching staff at Belleville High School in Michigan.
Stalions, who was hired after the close of the regular season, has been running the team's offense since the start of its playoff run.
That school features 5-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, the top overall recruit in the Class of 2025, who is currently committed to LSU. But Michigan is trying to flip that commitment and reportedly has offered him an NIL deal worth around $10 million, per Richard Johnson of CBS Sports.
It would not be a stretch to speculate that Stalions—who once allegedly went to great and impermissible lengths to aid Michigan—might be putting in a good word for the Wolverines with the young Underwood.
"I'm grateful to be working with Coach [Dejuan] Rogers, Coach [Calvin] Norman and the rest of the staff," Stalions told Gino Vicci of CBS News Detroit. "There's a very high expectation to win here at Belleville. All the players have responded very well to the quick adjustments we've made, and it's fun working with them on a daily basis."
Stalions initially spent the 2024 season at Detroit's Mumford High School as the defensive coordinator and interim head coach, going 1-8.
As for Underwood, Johnson noted last week that the exciting young quarterback "is an LSU commit for now, but many recruiting insiders view a flip to Michigan as a forgone conclusion."
The LSU faithful perhaps breathed a sigh of relief when Underwood wasn't in attendance for Michigan's loss against Oregon on Nov. 2 despite rumors he might attend the contest. He did attend LSU's loss to Alabama this past weekend, however:
Andrew Ivins of 247Sports compared Underwood to Vince Young in his scouting report of the young prospect, calling him a "potential franchise signal caller with the ideal blend of size, arm talent and athleticism" who "projects as a multi-year impact player for a College Football Playoff contender that has a chance to eventually emerge as a first-round pick in the NFL Draft with his tools."
Whether that contender is LSU or Michigan remains to be seen.
