Ohio State Climbs into Top Three with Win Over Penn State
The Buckeyes are likely to head into the first CFP rankings with a top three spot.
No. 4 Ohio State ensured a favorable playoff ranking by overcoming an early 10-point deficit at No. 3 Penn State on their way to a 20-13 win on Saturday.
After throwing a pick six on Ohio State's first drive, Will Howard rallied to lead the Buckeyes to victory by going 16-of-24 for 182 yards and two touchdowns.
Penn State meanwhile failed to convert on multiple opportunities, including a first-and-goal inside the five-yard line with the chance to tie the game in the final five minutes.
The Nittany Lions have now lost eight straight matchups to Ohio State. The program is 1-23 against top five opponents since 2000, including a 1-17 mark under head coach James Franklin.
Penn State's hopes of a spot in the CFP aren't over yet given that they have no ranked teams left on the schedule, but Ohio State has a meeting with No. 13 Indiana slated for Nov. 23.
Oregon Cements No. 1 Ranking with Victory over Michigan
Oregon will likely hang on to their No. 1 spot when the first CFP rankings are announced on Tuesday.
The No. 1 Ducks improved to 9-0 on the season by dispatching the defending national champion Michigan in a 38-17 road victory on Saturday.
Oregon dominated from the start on Saturday, holding Michigan to a three-and-out on their opening drive and answering with a touchdown to pull out to an early lead at the Big House.
Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel finished the outing with 294 passing yards and two total touchdowns. The Wolverines started Davis Warren before giving an opportunity to Alex Orji, but weren't able to find any answers for Oregon's offense.
Oregon is now likely to head into the first bracket as the top pick in the Big Ten, an expectation the team earned with its Week 6 win over Ohio State.
Georgia Avoids Upset Against Florida
Georgia likely hung on to its top-three ranking on Saturday despite an up-and-down performance from quarterback Carson Beck.
Beck threw three interceptions, but connected on a late touchdown while leading No. 2 Georgia to a 34-20 home win over Florida.
The Bulldogs improved to 9-0 with the win, but the team's offense struggled in the first half while their defense ran into trouble limiting Florida in the second as the victory exposed some of the inconsistencies the SEC powerhouse has struggled with so far this season.
Georgia has two important games coming up with a home game against No. 19 Ole Miss followed by a home contest against No. 7 Tennessee. The Bulldogs will need wins in both to remain the top projected team in the SEC.
