NFL Trade Rumors: Chiefs 'Monitoring' CB Market After DeAndre Hopkins, Uche Deals

After completing a pair of trades over the past week, the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs reportedly may not be done making moves yet.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Chiefs are "monitoring" the trade market for cornerbacks ahead of the Nov. 5 NFL trade deadline in the wake of losing starting corner Jaylen Watson to a broken tibia and fibula.

Last week, the Chiefs acquired veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans in exchange for a conditional 2025 fifth-round draft pick that could become a fourth, and they followed that up by acquiring pass-rusher Josh Uche from the New England Patriots this week for a 2026 sixth rounder.

Cornerback was already something of a question mark for the Chiefs entering the season after they traded their former No. 1 corner in L'Jarius Sneed to the Tennessee Titans during the offseason.

That led Trent McDuffie as KC's clear top cornerback, and while he has done well in that role, the depth around him is suspect.

Aside from McDuffie and Watson, 2023 fourth-round pick Chamarri Conner and 2022 seventh-round pick Nazeeh Johnson are the only other Chiefs corners to start a game this season, making a total of three starts between them.

They figure to have an increased role moving forward, although Johnson suffered a concussion during Sunday's win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Despite the Chiefs cycling through options at cornerback, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has helped Kansas City remain one of the NFL's premier defensive teams this season.

After ranking second in both total defense and scoring defense last season en route to a second consecutive Super Bowl win, the Chiefs are fifth in both categories thus far in 2024.

At 7-0, the Chiefs are the only remaining undefeated team in the NFL, and they have achieved that distinction despite quarterback Patrick Mahomes having thrown more interceptions (nine) than touchdowns (eight).

Although there hasn't been a ton of trade buzz regarding available cornerbacks, one name to keep an eye on before the deadline could be Los Angeles Rams veteran corner Tre'Davious White.

White has been a healthy scratch for the Rams' past three games, and head coach Sean McVay acknowledged this week that the organization has given White's agent permission to seek a trade.

While spending the first seven seasons of his career with the Buffalo Bills, White was a two-time Pro Bowler and one-time First Team All-Pro, and he was considered one of the top corners in the league when healthy.

However, he tore his ACL in 2021 and tore his Achilles last season, prompting the Bills to move on from him during the offseason.

White did not look like the same player he was in the past during his four starts with the Rams last season, but he is still only 29 years old and has a history of success, which could make him an ideal fit in Kansas City.
