Yankees vs. Dodgers Average Ticket Price Breaks Record as Most Expensive World Series

Adam Wells

It turns out a World Series matchup between the two most popular teams in Major League Baseball featuring the two biggest stars in the sport going to head to head is causing tremendous demand for tickets.

Online ticket seller TickPick (h/t CNN's Jordan Valinsky) has said the average ticket price for a game between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers is a record $1,703 on the secondary market.

The previous record was $1,693 in 2016 when the Chicago Cubs ended their 108-year championship drought in a thrilling seven-game series against Cleveland.

Stubhub (h/t Yahoo Sports' Jeff Eisenberg) has announced the matchup between the Yankees and Dodgers is already the best-selling World Series in the company's 24-year history.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the cheapest resale ticket from TickPick for Game 1 on Friday was more than double the cheapest ticket for the first game in any of the past five World Series.

Per listings on Vivid Seats for the entire series (h/t Matt Levy of the New York Post), the lowest price for any game at this point is $896 for Game 4 at Yankee Stadium.

All four games at Dodger Stadium currently have a get-in price of more than $1,000 when you include fees. The most expensive game right now, not surprisingly, is $1,323 (fees included) for a potential Game 7.

The hype is understandable for several reasons, not least of which this is the Yankees' first appearance in the World Series since 2009. It's tied for the longest gap between trips to the Fall Classic in franchise history.

Add the anticipation that Yankees fans have to see their team in the World Series with the fact that Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani—the presumptive MVP winners in their respective league—will be playing against each other to determine a champion, it's not a surprise this World Series is an expensive ticket to get.

Plus, the Dodgers have their own storied history and a massive fanbase that is going to generate huge interest in the World Series.

If you can afford to get in, Game 1 between the Yankees and Dodgers will be played in Los Angeles on Friday at 8:08 p.m. ET.
