Michigan's Sherrone Moore Undecided on Starting QB for Michigan State Rivalry Game

Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore still hasn't decided on a starting quarterback for the Wolverines' upcoming battle with Michigan State for the Paul Bunyan Trophy, according to The Athletic's Austin Meek (h/t Grant Grubbs of On3.com).

Moore's team is in the midst of a two-game losing streak after falling to No. 20 Illinois by the final score of 21-7 on Saturday.

Seventh-year senior Jack Tuttle started under center against Illinois, throwing for 208 yards and committing two turnovers without recording a touchdown.

Tuttle previously appeared in the second quarter of the Wolverines' 27-17 loss to Washington, leading Michigan on three straight scoring drives. He couldn't sustain the momentum afterward, turning the ball over twice in the defeat.

The 25-year-old is the third starting quarterback that Michigan has used this season, joining Davis Warren and Alex Orji. Moore was hesitant to try a new option against the Spartans, but he was also adamant that issues with ball security could not continue.

"You can't turn the ball over," Moore said, via Grubbs. "You don't want to go to four quarterbacks. You don't want to have to go through this process, but you got to take care of the football. We're going to see what we got to do, and we'll have that conversation as we go."

If the Wolverines end up utilizing a fourth starting signal-caller this season, junior Jayden Denegal and true freshman Jadyn Davis are potential options.

Moore could also give Warren another shot after he was benched during a Week 3 matchup with Arkansas State. The senior quarterback still leads the Wolverines with 444 pass yards this season, but he's thrown two touchdowns compared to six interceptions.

As Michigan attempts to bounce back from a disappointing 4-3 start to the season, the first-string quarterback against Michigan State is still uncertain. The Spartans also own a 4-3 record, allowing 192 pass yards per game.
