NFL Rumors: Garrett Wilson Drawing Trade Interest; Jets Have No Plans to Move WR

Julia Stumbaugh

Multiple NFL teams have looked into a potential trade for New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Jets have heard from some of these teams but "are not planning to trade Wilson," sources told Schefter.

New York acquired Davante Adams in a Tuesday trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, adding the six-time Pro Bowler to a crowded wide receiver room already staffed by Wilson, Allen Lazard and Mike Williams.

Wilson has made 41 catches for 399 yards and three touchdowns in six games this season.

The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported on Thursday that the Jets have received interest in Williams from "a number of teams" ahead of Adams' New York debut on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Steelers, Los Angeles Chargers and New Orleans Saints are among the teams that have inquired after Williams, per Russini.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported the same day that the Jets are "trying to find a suitor" for Williams, who was serving as the team's WR3 prior to the Adams trade.

Williams has 10 catches for 145 yards through six games in that capacity. He has taken 205 snaps, with Wilson (369 snaps) and Lazard (355 snaps) shouldering most of the workload.

His usage seemed almost guaranteed to decrease further in Week 7 after veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers publicly criticized his route running following Monday's loss to the Buffalo Bills, making him an obvious choice for a trade.

Wilson is meanwhile trending in the opposite direction after receiving a season-high 23 targets in a Week 5 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Last year Wilson became the first Jets receiver to tally consecutive 1,000 receiving-yard seasons since Keyshawn Johnson in 1999. Given that Wilson has one year remaining on his rookie contract before a fifth-year club option in 2026, Williams will remain the Jets' most probable receiver trade option heading into Week 7.
