The Kansas City Chiefs were well represented at the Blue Valley vs. Blue Valley West High School football game on Friday night.
Patrick Mahomes, Chris Jones and Andy Reid were among the Chiefs contingent in the stands to support the sons of offensive coordinator Matt Nagy and defensive backs coach Dave Merritt who played against each other.
Blue Valley West is located in Overland Park, one of the four principal cities in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
Matt's son, Tate Nagy, is the starting quarterback for the Jaguars. Dawson Merritt was going up against Matt as a linebacker for Blue Valley.
Tate did his best Mahomes impression with the two-time MVP in the stands. Blue Valley took a 34-28 lead with a late touchdown, but the extra point attempt was blocked. The Jaguars got the ball back at their own 20-yard line needing to go 80 yards with 44 seconds remaining.
After an incompletion on first down, Blue Valley West picked up 79 yards on its next four plays. The drive included completions of 45 yards and 19 yards. Nagy's touchdown pass to Tyler Peterson tied the game and Joey Svoboda hit the extra point for the 35-34 win.
Tate Nagy is a 3-star recruit in the 2025 class, per 247Sports' composite rankings. He committed to the University of Kansas in June.
Merritt is a 4-star prospect and No. 13 linebacker recruit in next year's class, per 247Sports' composite rankings. He committed to Alabama in June after also considering Nebraska.
The Chiefs' contingent was enjoying their last night in Kansas City before a flight to the Bay Area on Saturday. They will take on the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium on Sunday in a rematch of Super Bowl 58 that the Chiefs won 25-22 in overtime.
