WWE SmackDown Results: Winners, Live Grades, Reaction and Highlights From October 18

Doc-Chris Mueller

Welcome to Bleacher Report's live coverage of WWE SmackDown on October 18.

Here is a look at what WWE hyped for this week's show:

Let's take a look at everything that happened on Friday's episode of SmackDown.

Opening Segment

SmackDown opened with five minutes of video packages before The New Bloodline came out to kick off the live show. Sikoa said Reigns and Jimmy Uso would acknowledge him by the end of the night.

Jey Uso's music hit and he came through the crowd. He said he cares about Solo because they are still brothers. He told Solo to think about what he is doing to the family.

The segment ended with no fighting and no real resolution. It felt like WWE wasted the first 20 minutes of the show and got nothing done. Some of this will come into play later, but for now, the opening segment felt like filler.

Notable Moments and Observations

Pretty Deadly vs. DIY vs. Street Profits

A triple threat tag match took place with DIY, The Street Profits and Pretty Deadly to get the action going.

One member of each team was legal at all times, so the action was fast-paced with three men fighting and their partners occasionally getting involved.

Multi-team matches can often be chaotic and feel unfocused, but all three of these teams did an excellent job making sure the action was both exciting and easy to follow.

Montez Ford and Johnny Gargano each pinned a different member of Pretty Deadly, but since only one of them was legal, DIY was declared the winning team.

This was a fun finish to an entertaining bout. It's great to see the tag team division get some attention while the titles are tied up in the Bloodline.

Result: DIY won

Grade: B+

Notable Moments and Observations

Piper Niven vs. Lash Legend

Reigns and Jimmy ran into Jey backstage and Reigns said he was proud of him, but Jey didn't want to hear any of it.

After coming up short in a women's tag title bout last week, Lash Legend was back on SmackDown to take on Piper Niven. Jakara Jackson and Chelsea Green were both at ringside.

Niven is used to having a power advantage, but Legend showed her that she is strong enough to give her a fight.

Legend was able to pick up a clean win by powering Niven up for a reverse Samoan drop. This was quick, but they did a decent job of making it feel competitive.

Result: Legend defeated Niven

Notable Moments and Observations

A-Town Down Under vs. Los Garzas vs. Motor City Machine Guns

Cody Rhodes came out with the Crown Jewel Championship in the middle of the ring. He gave a standard promo about being confident he would win.

Next up was a video from Kevin Owens talking about how unfair it is that management doesn't want him to come to work.

Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley made their SmackDown debut in the second triple threat tag match of the night against Austin Theory, Grayson Waller, Angel and Berto.

The Guns immediately showed the WWE Universe their signature brand of fast-paced offense with some double-team maneuvers.

Even though this was MCMG's anticipated debut, all three teams had an opportunity to shine. In fact, Los Garzas looked especially impressive.

Sabin and Shelley scored the win, so they will take on DIY for a future title shot next week.

Result: Motor City Machine Guns won

Grade: B+

Notable Moments and Observations

Nia JAX and Candice Lerae vs. Naomi and

Tiffany Stratton was unable to serve as Nia Jax's partner, so Candice LeRae stepped up to team with her against Naomi and Bayley in the main event.

Jax almost won immediately by crushing Bayley in the corner. Once LeRae came in, the babyfaces took over.

Indi Hartwell got involved to give Candice and Nia an unfair advantage. She shoved Bayley into the ring post so LeRae could get the pin.

Jax looked shocked and a little upset that The Poison Pixie stole her thunder. This was quick and a lot of it took place during a commercial break, but it wasn't bad by any means.

LeRae is someone WWE needs to use more often, so seeing her get some spotlight this week was great.

Result: Jax and LeRae defeated Bayley and Naomi

The Final Word

This week's SmackDown was on the lackluster side, but that doesn't mean the whole show was bad.

The women's and tag team divisions got a lot of attention this week, and the debut of Motor City Machine Guns was a major highlight.

WWE has hyped their debut for a few weeks and played it up on social media, but a lot of fans who never watched TNA are going to need to see more of them to get on board.

The Bloodline story took center stage in the opening and closing segments. Sikoa wanted Reigns to acknowledge him in the middle of the ring, so they met in the final minutes of the show.

Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa and Jacob Fatu dragged out a beaten Jimmy and it sent Reigns off. He took out everyone in The Bloodline but the numbers game caught up to him and he was decimated.

DIY, Pretty Deadly and The Street Profits put on the best match of the night, but the other triple threat tag match was fun, too.

This week's show as a whole was nothing special, but it wasn't a bad way to spend two hours on a Friday night.

Grade: C+
