Why Jey Uso Will Lose IC Title on Raw, WWE's Smart Booking Choice, More Quick Takes

The Bloodline saga's latest thrilling chapter saw Jey Uso unexpectedly confront the Solo Sikoa-led group on Friday's edition of WWE SmackDown, further foreshadowing his imminent reunion with Roman Reigns and Jimmy Uso.

It also telegraphed the ending to his upcoming Intercontinental Championship clash with Bron Breakker on Monday's Raw.

Uso's upset win over Breakker last month made for a monumental moment, but it's time for the two-time NXT champion to get the belt back with an assist from The Bloodline to set up Jey's involvement in the ongoing family affair on Friday nights.

Meanwhile, All Elite Wrestling failed to follow up on the newsworthy WrestleDream ending effectively on the subsequent Dynamite. Jon Moxley's crew are wisely being built up as destroyers and now have the AEW World Championship in their possession, but they're in desperate need of legitimate competition and soon.

Although The Elite teased potentially helping out the rest of the AEW originals in their war with Moxley, that would be one of the least interesting directions the company can explore with the angle.

This installment of Quick Takes will discuss why The Elite should be kept away from AEW's new top storyline, Mercedes Moné having yet to find her footing, WWE not needing Brock Lesnar, and more.

Booking the End to Jey Uso's Intercontinental Championship Reign

Jey Uso winning the Intercontinental Championship from Bron Breakker on the Sept. 23 edition of Raw established that he could be a successful singles star and capture gold on his own.

That was his primary reason for leaving The Bloodline in the summer of 2023 and journeying to Raw following the split from his brother, Jimmy. He had previously fallen short whenever it mattered most and needed to take the title from Breakker to prove he was capable of actually winning "the big one" for a change.

His reign obviously hasn't lasted long, but it doesn't need to. Uso is over enough with the audience that he can drop the belt and not lose any credibility or his connection with crowds whatsoever.

Breakker beating Uso would be perfectly acceptable, but after what went down on the latest SmackDown, it would make the most sense for The Bloodline to show up and cost Jey the belt by interfering.

That way, Jey has more of an incentive to want revenge on his former faction and eventually reunite with Roman Reigns and Jimmy. WWE is wisely taking its time with the storyline and not rushing into Jey easily forgiving Reigns and Jimmy for their past transgressions.

The Elite Are Not the Answer to Jon Moxley's Hostile Takeover of AEW

AEW could greatly benefit from a creative shakeup after months of stagnant storylines, and the ongoing angle with Jon Moxley's crew terrorizing the roster has the potential to be what carries the company for the foreseeable future.

It remains to be seen whether a "higher power" (a la Shane McMahon) will be revealed as the mastermind behind the group and their unexplained actions, but the bigger question at this point has become who will be the ones to ultimately stop them.

It's been implied that Darby Allin and Orange Cassidy will lead the charge, but it was also teased on the Oct. 16 edition of Dynamite that The Elite could soon get involved and fight on behalf of the promotion they helped build.

It's a perfectly acceptable idea in theory, but The Elite failing in their hostile takeover of AEW mere months ago would make a babyface turn anytime soon feel forced and disingenuous. In that case, they'd be better off being busy with almost anything else.

Another Elite babyface reunion is the last thing AEW needs at the moment. Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, PAC and Marina Shafir will need actual competition to remain relevant, but faction warfare between them and The Elite isn't the answer.

WWE Takes Steps Toward Renewed Focus on Tag Team Division

Tag team wrestling is typically overlooked in WWE and isn't prioritized nearly as much as almost any other scene on the shows. That's why Finn Bálor and JD McDonagh have had a forgettable run as world tag team champions since taking the titles from Awesome Truth at the start of the summer.

In the span of seven days, the company took the necessary steps toward rehabilitating the tag team division as a whole on both brands, including with the women.

Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill are ready to go their separate ways and start their storyline as singles stars, but until then, they're maximizing their time as partners and attempting to elevate the scene as much as possible. They recently racked up wins against Damage CTRL and NXT's Lash Legend and Jakara Jackson and have unfinished business with the latter duo.

On the Oct. 14 edition of Raw, War Raiders returned from a long layoff and made quick work of Alpha Academy. Bringing back their former gimmick from NXT was the right call and sent the message that they could be the next tag champs.

Motor City Machine Guns were equally impressive in their SmackDown debut, where they advanced to next week's No. 1 Contender's match for the WWE Tag Team Championship against DIY.

They should go on to dethrone The Bloodline, if only to inject more excitement into the division.

Jim Ross Is Right: Mercedes Moné Has Yet to Hit Her Stride in AEW

Legendary pro wrestling broadcaster Jim Ross has earned the right to speak his mind about the current state of the business and offer constructive criticism for whatever he sees fit.

He hasn't been shy about sharing his candid thoughts on various wrestlers, storylines and matches over the years, and his recent remarks on his Grilling JR podcast regarding not yet feeling a "connection" to Mercedes Moné in AEW weren't inaccurate.

The WWE Hall of Famer later clarified his comments (h/t Michael Schrute of WrestlingNews.co) by saying she could be used more efficiently and her booking needs to improve until he can invest in her as a character.

Moné remains undefeated since arriving in AEW and has been a fighting champion, but her lack of meaningful storylines has been underwhelming. Her rivalry with Britt Baker heading into All Out was cut short, and her current feud with Kris Statlander isn't clicking yet because her rival randomly went back to being a babyface.

Her subpar promos can also be attributed to her issue of not being involved in something significant. Moné is one of wrestling's most popular stars in the last decade and should feel like a bigger deal than she does.

The heel pairing with Kamille works well, but she has hardly scratched the surface of what she can bring to the table in AEW.

Gunther Doesn't Need to Face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 41

Despite being subtly namedropped on the Oct. 14 edition of Raw, Brock Lesnar won't be returning to WWE for quite a while, per Fightful Select.

The Beast Incarnate hasn't been utilized by the company in any capacity since before Janel Grant's lawsuit against Vince McMahon was filed in January. Having been anonymously referenced in the suit, it's believed he won't be brought back at least until the investigation into the accusations is completed.

Lesnar was at one point penciled in to face then-intercontinental champion Gunther at WrestleMania 40 before being pulled from plans, and if he were in the fold right now, that would likely be the bout for WrestleMania 41, this time for the World Heavyweight Championship.

However. that marquee match isn't a must for 'Mania next spring. The Ring General has a plethora of other opponents he can defend against instead.

WWE's roster depth is such that Lesnar isn't currently needed on Raw or SmackDown and there should be no rush in reintroducing him.

Gunther has possible matches with John Cena, Seth Rollins, CM Punk, Bron Breakker and even Sheamus on the table for The Show of Shows, so a prominent spot for him on the card won't be an issue regardless of Lesnar's status.
