As the southeastern part of the United States continues to work through the damage caused by Hurricane Helene, the Augusta National Golf Club has announced a donation to help relief efforts.

Fred Ridley, chairman of Augusta National Golf Club, announced the organization will donate $5 million toward the Hurricane Helene Community Crisis Fund.

Helene was a Category 4 hurricane that primarily hit Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina in the United States. It also impacted the Yucatán Peninsula, Honduras, the Cayman Islands and Cuba.

Per the U.S. Navy website, a Category 4 hurricane consists of sustained winds between 131 and 155 mph and storm surges ranging from 13 feet to 17 feet above normal tide levels.

Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida on Sept. 26 and continued across the southeastern part of the country for three days before dissipating on Sept. 29.

As of Thursday morning, per Steve Almasy of CNN.com, more than 190 people across six different states have been confirmed dead from the hurricane.

Per PowerOutage.us, just under 1 million people remain without power between Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

Storm director Jason Hollifield of Duke Energy, the regional energy provider in the Carolinas, said on Monday that "major portions of the power grid that were simply wiped away" from the hurricane.

Augusta, Georgia, home of the Augusta National Golf Club, is currently under a boil-water advisory and has a curfew from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. due to the difficulty of navigating driving with no electricity and fallen trees in the streets.

Georgia governor Brian Kemp extended the state of emergency status through Oct. 9 to allow state agencies to allocate resources for relief efforts.

Augusta National Golf Club has been the host site for The Masters every year since the tournament's inception in 1934.
