Video: Saints' Khristian Boyd Fined for Hit That Injured Eagles' DeVonta Smith

Khristian Boyd has been fined for his hit on Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the New Orleans Saints defensive tackle has been fined $4,600 for the hit on Smith that knocked the receiver out of their Week 3 matchup and ultimately landed him in the concussion protocol.

Smith has not practiced since the hit and, barring a late-week turnaround, appears unlikely to suit up for the Eagles' Week 4 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Boyd was not flagged for the hit but the league deemed it a fineable offense. The hit occurred when Smith made a five-yard catch and was wrapped up by two Saints defenders. Boyd then came from behind and hit Smith, knocking the receiver's helmet off.

It is Boyd's first fine in the NFL and it came in just his third game. The rookie from Northern Iowa has played 45 snaps and has logged one tackle.

Smith is in his fourth NFL season and has totaled 21 catches for 239 yards and a touchdown thus far in 2024. He is coming off of back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and will be a big loss for the Eagles offense if he isn't able to suit up on Sunday.
