With the 2024 MLB season winding to a close, it's time for one final update to our farm system rankings.
The last update to these rankings came back on July 19, immediately following the 2024 draft. Between trade-deadline deals, players graduating to the big leagues and breakout second-half performances, a lot has changed.
The following factors helped determine the placement of players and teams:
- Potential (Player): Potential trumps production a lot of the time, especially in the lower levels of the minors and with recent draft picks. Skill sets and tools are often better indicators of what kind of player someone will be.
- Talent (Player): As for those in the higher levels of the minors who are close to breaking through to the big leagues, production and talent were the determining factors, as these players are viewed as more complete products.
- Overall Depth (Team): Having one or two elite prospects is great, but a deep farm system is the way to build a sustainable contender. Depth and talent were the biggest factors in ranking each team.
- High-End Talent (Team): There is a difference between a prospect who has a chance of making an impact in the majors and a prospect who could be a star. Elite prospects served as a tiebreaker when teams were close in the rankings.
A tier system was used to help differentiate the varying levels of individual talent:
- Tier 1: Prospects who have elite skill sets and All-Star potential. This is the cream of the prospect crop. These players make up B/R's Top 100 prospect list heading into the offseason.
- Tier 2: Prospects who have a good chance of becoming impact contributors. These are the players who were in consideration for spots on B/R's Top 100 prospect list and could end up there in the future.
- Tier 3: Prospects who profile as fringe MLB contributors or young players who are still too raw to project any higher. This tier represents the bulk of prospects around baseball, though more than a few could climb to the next tier.
Teams were ranked based on the cumulative tier ranking total of their top 10 prospects, and the rankings were then subjectively tweaked from there.
Note: A player must not have surpassed the rookie-eligibility limits (130 at-bats, 50 innings pitched, 45 days on an active roster) to be included in these rankings.
30. San Francisco Giants
Top 10 Prospects
1. 1B Bryce Eldridge (Tier 1)
2. OF James Tibbs III (Tier 2)
3. LHP Carson Whisenhunt (Tier 2)
4. OF Rayner Arias (Tier 3)
5. OF Dakota Jordan (Tier 3)

10. LHP Jack Choate (Tier 3)
Year in Review
The Giants graduated Marco Luciano and Hayden Birdsong to the majors, along with breakout rookie Tyler Fitzgerald, while top pitching prospect Carson Whisenhunt took a step backward with his command.
They did add two of the top college bats in the 2024 draft class in James Tibbs III and Dakota Jordan, but the system as a whole is lacking in top-tier talent outside of slugger Bryce Eldridge.
29. New York Yankees
Top 10 Prospects
1. OF Jasson Domínguez (Tier 1)
2. OF Spencer Jones (Tier 1)
3. SS Roderick Arias (Tier 2)
4. SS George Lombard Jr. (Tier 3)
5. RHP Chase Hampton (Tier 3)
6. LHP Brock Selvidge (Tier 3)
7. RHP Ben Hess (Tier 3)
8. RHP Bryce Cunningham (Tier 3)
9. LHP Henry Lalane (Tier 3)
10. OF Everson Pereira (Tier 3)
Year in Review
Several of the Yankees' top prospects have either dealt with injuries or underperformed significantly this year, including slugger Spencer Jones, who struck out 200 times in 122 games at Double-A.
Once Jasson Dominguez exhausts his prospect status early in the 2025 season, this group will have a tough time avoiding the No. 30 spot in these rankings.
28. San Diego Padres
Top 10 Prospects
1. SS Leodalis De Vries (Tier 1)
2. C Ethan Salas (Tier 1)
3. LHP Kash Mayfield (Tier 2)
4. RHP Victor Lizarraga (Tier 3)
5. RHP Isaiah Lowe (Tier 3)
6. LHP Boston Bateman (Tier 3)

Along with graduating Jackson Merrill to the majors, the Padres also traded away Robby Snelling, Dylan Lesko, Dillon Head, Jakob Marsee, Adam Mazur and Nathan Martorella from their preseason Top 10 prospect list.
Landing the top prospect on the international market in back-to-back years at least gives them two top-tier prospects to headline the system.
27. Toronto Blue Jays
Top 10 Prospects
1. SS Arjun Nimmala (Tier 1)
2. LHP Ricky Tiedemann (Tier 2)
3. 2B Orelvis Martinez (Tier 2)

5. RHP Jake Bloss (Tier 2)
6. 3B/OF Charles McAdoo (Tier 3)
7. RHP Fernando Perez (Tier 3)
8. LHP Kendry Rojas (Tier 3)
9. LHP Adam Macko (Tier 3)
10. SS Josh Kasevich (Tier 3)
Year in Review
While Ricky Tiedemann (injury) and Orelvis Martinez (PED suspension) both saw their stock drop, the Blue Jays did a nice job adding quality pieces to the farm system at the trade deadline, including Jake Bloss (via Houston) and Charles McAdoo (via Pittsburgh).
Shortstop Arjun Nimmala posted an .807 OPS with 20 doubles, seven triples, 17 home runs and 47 RBI in 90 games, flashing the potential that made him the No. 20 overall pick in 2023.
26. Arizona Diamondbacks
Top 10 Prospects
1. SS Jordan Lawlar (Tier 1)
2. OF Druw Jones (Tier 2)
3. 2B/3B Demetrio Crisantes (Tier 2)
4. RHP Yilber Diaz (Tier 2)

6. SS Tommy Troy (Tier 2)
7. OF Slade Caldwell (Tier 3)
8. LHP Yu-Min Lin (Tier 3)
9. 3B Gino Groover (Tier 3)
10. SS JD Dix (Tier 3)
Year in Review
The D-backs have half-a-dozen players capable of quickly making the jump from Tier 2 to Tier 1 with a strong start to the 2025 season, so this ranking is more representative of their current floor than their potential ceiling.
Infielder Demetrio Crisantes hit .341/.429/.492 with 36 extra-base hits and 30 steals in 92 games between rookie ball and Single-A, making him one of the biggest breakout prospects of the 2024 season.
25. Kansas City Royals
Top 10 Prospects
1. 1B/LHP Jac Caglianone (Tier 1)
2. C Blake Mitchell (Tier 1)
3. RHP Ben Kudrna (Tier 2)
4. C Carter Jensen (Tier 2)
5. OF Gavin Cross (Tier 2)
6. RHP Blake Wolters (Tier 3)
7. RHP Felix Arronde (Tier 3)
8. LHP David Shields (Tier 3)

10. C Ramon Ramirez (Tier 3)
Year in Review
The Royals traded away a couple highly regarded prospects in Cayden Wallace and Mason Barnett to add Hunter Harvey and Lucas Erceg to the bullpen at the trade deadline, but the system as a whole still slots in the middle of the pack with two top-tier prospects, some intriguing arms and a former first-round pick in Gavin Cross who might be figuring things out.
24. Houston Astros
Top 10 Prospects
1. OF Jacob Melton (Tier 1)
2. SS Brice Matthews (Tier 1)
3. C Walker Janek (Tier 2)
4. OF Luis Baez (Tier 2)
5. RHP A.J. Blubaugh (Tier 2)

8. RHP Anderson Brito (Tier 3)
9. 3B Zach Dezenzo (Tier 3)
10. RHP Jose Fleury (Tier 3)
Year in Review
The Astros paid a steep prospect price to acquire Yusei Kikuchi at the trade deadline, while also graduating Spencer Arrighetti to the majors, though a breakout season from 2023 first-round pick Brice Matthews did give them another Tier 1 prospect.
They have a knack for getting the most out of high-velocity arms, so keep an eye on Miguel Ullola, who has a 70-grade fastball and piled up 171 strikeouts in 130.1 innings in the upper levels of the minors.
23. Baltimore Orioles
Top 10 Prospects
1. 1B/3B Coby Mayo (Tier 1)
2. C Samuel Basallo (Tier 1)
3. RHP Chayce McDermott (Tier 2)
4. OF Vance Honeycutt (Tier 2)
5. OF Enrique Bradfield Jr. (Tier 2)

9. RHP Patrick Reilly (Tier 3)
10. OF Stiven Martinez (Tier 3)
Year in Review
The Orioles graduated Jackson Holliday, Heston Kjerstad and Cade Povich from, arguably, the best farm system in baseball heading into the season, while also trading Connor Norby to the Miami Marlins at the deadline.
The result is a significantly thinned-out top prospect list, though they still have a pair of potential future stars in Coby Mayo and Samuel Basallo and a quality pitching prospect with swing-and-miss stuff in Chayce McDermott.
22. Minnesota Twins
Top 10 Prospects
1. OF Walker Jenkins (Tier 1)
2. OF Emmanuel Rodriguez (Tier 1)
3. 2B/OF Luke Keaschall (Tier 1)
4. RHP Andrew Morris (Tier 2)

9. RHP C.J. Culpepper (Tier 3)
10. 3B Billy Amick (Tier 3)
Year in Review
With Brooks Lee, David Festa and Zebby Matthews all moving on to the majors, the Twins no longer have a Top 10 farm system, but they do still have two of the most promising offensive prospects in the sport in Walker Jenkins and Emmanuel Rodriguez. Versatile Luke Keaschall has also been a great find in the second round of the 2023 draft.
21. Los Angeles Angels
Top 10 Prospects
1. RHP Caden Dana (Tier 1)
2. 2B Christian Moore (Tier 1)
3. SS Joswa Lugo (Tier 2)

8. C Dario Laverde (Tier 3)
9. SS Denzer Guzman (Tier 3)
10. RHP Barrett Kent (Tier 3)

The Angels started the year with baseball's worst farm system, so climbing all the way to No. 21 is solid progress in one season.
Caden Dana broke through as a Tier 1 prospect, Christian Moore was added with the No. 8 pick in the 2024 draft and promising pitching prospects George Klassen and Samuel Aldegheri were both acquired in the deadline deal that sent Carlos Estevez to the Philadelphia Phillies.
20. Miami Marlins
Top 10 Prospects
1. LHP Thomas White (Tier 1)
2. RHP Noble Meyer (Tier 1)
3. C Agustin Ramirez (Tier 1)

A year after making the playoffs, the Marlins blew things up at the 2024 trade deadline, adding Agustin Ramirez, Robby Snelling and Deyvison De Los Santos among the haul of prospects they acquired.
Meanwhile, left-hander Thomas White separated himself as the clear No. 1 prospect in the system by posting a 2.81 ERA and 120 strikeouts in 96 innings between Single-A and High-A in his age-19 season.
19. St. Louis Cardinals
Top 10 Prospects
1. RHP Tink Hence (Tier 1)

Tip of the cap to the Cardinals front office for getting Jimmy Crooks (2022) and Quinn Matthews (2023) in the fourth round of their respective draft classes, as breakout seasons from that tandem have helped bolster the system.
They were also given a gift when JJ Wetherholt fell into their laps at No. 7 overall in the 2024 draft.
18. Atlanta Braves
Top 10 Prospects
1. C Drake Baldwin (Tier 1)
2. RHP Hurston Waldrep (Tier 1)

8. SS Jose Perdomo (Tier 3)
9. RHP Drue Hackenberg (Tier 3)
10. RHP Didier Fuentes (Tier 3)
Year in Review
The Braves system has skewed heavily toward the pitching side of things the past few years, but they have a new No. 1 prospect in catcher Drake Baldwin following a breakout 2024 campaign.
They did still add more quality pitching talent in top prep left-hander Cam Caminiti with their top 2024 draft pick, and developing arms remains the strength of the system.
17. Philadelphia Phillies
Top 10 Prospects
1. OF Justin Crawford (Tier 1)
2. RHP Andrew Painter (Tier 1)
3. 3B Aidan Miller (Tier 1)
4. SS Starlyn Caba (Tier 1)

7. OF Dante Nori (Tier 3)
8. OF Griffin Burkholder (Tier 3)
9. RHP Seth Johnson (Tier 3)
10. SS Devin Saltiban (Tier 3)

The top three guys on this list can be slotted in any order, as all three have star-caliber upside and have moved quickly through the farm system since being drafted out of high school. Andrew Painter likely would already be in the majors if injuries had not derailed his ascent, but he is still only 21 years old.
Props to the front office on getting a closer at the trade deadline without parting with any Tier 1 talent.
16. Cincinnati Reds
Top 10 Prospects
1. RHP Rhett Lowder (Tier 1)
2. RHP Chase Burns (Tier 1)
3. 3B Cam Collier (Tier 1)
4. 2B/3B Sal Stewart (Tier 2)
5. RHP Chase Petty (Tier 2)

7. SS Edwin Arroyo (Tier 2)
8. RHP Julian Aguiar (Tier 3)
9. SS Sammy Stafura (Tier 3)
10. IF Ricardo Cabrera (Tier 3)
Year in Review
The Reds have one of the best pitching prospect tandems in baseball after pairing 2023 first-round pick Rhett Lowder (No. 7 overall) with 2024 first-rounder Chase Burns (No. 2 overall), and Lowder has a 1.40 ERA in 25.2 innings over five starts in the majors.
It's a somewhat top-heavy system, but they have had a steady stream of MLB talent emerge from the minor league pipeline the last few seasons.
15. New York Mets
Top 10 Prospects
1. RHP Brandon Sproat (Tier 1)

More than a few Mets prospects saw their stock drop in 2024, but right-hander Brandon Sproat was not among them as he went from the No. 56 overall pick in 2023 to one of the best pitching prospects in baseball.
Healthy seasons from Jett Williams and Ronny Mauricio in 2025 should give this group a boost, while Luisangel Acuña is opening some eyes with a strong debut.

It's a testament to the depth of the Pittsburgh system and the continued development of their in-house talent that the Pirates graduated Paul Skenes and Jared Jones to the majors and still slot into the top half of these rankings.
Bubba Chandler, Thomas Harrington and Braxton Ashcraft should all be ready for the majors in 2025.
13. Chicago White Sox

The White Sox didn't add much to the farm system at the trade deadline, despite being active sellers, but they still have some terrific top-tier talent.
Adding Arkansas ace Hagen Smith with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2024 draft gives them, arguably, the two best left-handed pitching prospects in baseball, while Colson Montgomery still has franchise cornerstone potential even after a down year.

With Travis Sykora and Jarlin Susana both jumping up to Tier 1 status since our last update, the Nationals system is trending up even after James Wood officially exhausted his prospect eligibility.
Dylan Crews should have a spot on the Opening Day roster next year, while Brady House will not be far behind in making his MLB debut.

Few teams have done more to improve their farm system outlook over the past two years than the Rockies.
They added Chase Dollander (No. 9 in 2023), Sean Sullivan (No. 46 in 2023), Cole Carrigg (No. 65 in 2023), Charlie Condon (No. 3 in 2024) and Brody Brecht (No. 38 in 2024) in their last two draft classes, while also signing Robert Calaz for $1.7 million during the 2023 international signing period.
Now it's up to their developmental team to make the most of all that talent.

The Rangers have long been a team that struggles to develop pitching talent, but that narrative has started to shift this year amid breakout seasons from Emiliano Teodo, Alejandro Rosario and Winston Santos, along with a phenomenal return from Tommy John surgery by Kumar Rocker.
This feels like an organization at a crossroads, with enough young talent to retool in short order if they opt to go that route.

Even with rising star Jackson Chourio exiting the prospect ranks, the Brewers still have a Top 10 farm system, led by hard-throwing Jacob Misiorowski and an intriguing collection of offensive talent.
Teenager Jesus Made was signed for $950,000 in January, and he hit .331/.458/.554 with 21 extra-base hits and 28 steals in 51 games in the Dominican Summer League, giving him a ton of helium heading into his stateside debut in 2025.

The Dodgers' top prospect list looks significantly different than it did heading into the season, though Josue De Paula and Dalton Rushing are still the headliners.
It seems a new name emerges from the lower levels of the system every year, and it has been Emil Morales in 2024. The club's top 2024 international signing at $1.9 million, he hit .342/.478/.691 with 11 doubles, 14 home runs, 46 RBI and 12 steals in 46 games in the Dominican Summer League.

The Oakland system has quietly produced some quality talent in recent years, including Mason Miller and Lawrence Butler who have emerged as stars in 2024.
Outfielder Colby Thomas and first baseman Nick Kurtz are two of the best power-hitting prospects in baseball, and the latter hit .368/.520/.763 in 50 plate appearances between Single-A and Double-A after going No. 4 overall in this year's draft.

The Tigers graduated No. 1 prospect Colt Keith from their preseason Top 10 list, but the system is deeper than it was when the year began thanks to the additions of Thayron Liranzo and Trey Sweeney in the deal that sent Jack Flaherty to the Dodgers.
Right-hander Jaden Hamm has also turned in a breakout season on the mound, while Jackson Jobe has established himself as the top pitching prospect in all of baseball.

The Guardians began the year at No. 25 in these rankings, with only Chase DeLauter and Kyle Manzardo checking in as Tier 1 prospects, so they have raised their farm system outlook as much as any team in baseball.
Jaison Chourio (19), Ralphy Velazquez (19), Angel Genao (20), Welbyn Francisca (18) and Braylon Doughty (18) are all still shy of their 21st birthdays, so there's a good chance this system will be No. 1 in the near future.

With Matt Shaw, Moises Ballesteros, Owen Caissie, James Triantos and Kevin Alcántara all closing out the season at Triple-A Iowa, and Cade Horton also pitching there before he was sidelined with a subscapularis strain in May, a wave of exciting young talent is poised to descend on Wrigley Field.
This year's top draft pick Cam Smith is also already playing at Double-A, and he has hit .313/.396/.609 with 16 extra-base hits in 32 games over three levels in his pro debut.

Outfielder Roman Anthony will be squarely in the running for the title of No. 1 prospect in baseball heading into the 2025 season, while Marcelo Mayer, Kristian Campbell and Kyle Teel should all be consensus Top 50 prospects.
A lack of good young pitching continues to be a glaring weakness in the Boston pipeline, but they are so stacked with position-player talent that it's still an elite system.

The Rays graduated Junior Caminero and actually climbed in the rankings thanks to breakout performances from Chandler Simpson, Tre' Morgan and Gary Gill Hill, along with a solid haul of prospect talent that was acquired at the trade deadline.
It will be interesting to see how much of Simpson's production translates to the next level after he hit .355/.410/.397 with 104 steals in 110 games between High-A and Double-A.
Catcher Dominic Keegan and outfielder Aidan Smith would be slam dunk picks for the Top 10 list of almost any other team.

The Mariners were No. 13 in our preseason rankings, but they climbed to No. 1 by midseason thanks to several breakout performances and a terrific draft haul headlined by switch-pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje and top prep arm Ryan Sloan.
Outfielder Lazaro Montes and second baseman Michael Arroyo had two of the most productive offensive seasons in the minors this year, while Colt Emerson raised his profile significantly in his first full professional season after going No. 22 overall in the 2023 draft.
