Former NBA center Dwight Howard and American gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik were among the 13 participants who kicked off Season 33 of Dancing With The Stars on Tuesday evening.
Ex-NFL wide receiver Danny Amendola and American rugby player Ilona Maher rounded out the quartet of athletes who are taking part this year.
Howard and Nedoroscik stood out in particular and received rave reviews for their work.
Howard and his professional partner, Daniella Karagach, stole the show after dancing the salsa to Montell Jordan's "This Is How We Do It." They earned a score of 22 (8, 7, 7) out of a possible 30 points from the three judges, putting them in second place on the evening.
Nedoroscik and professional partner Rylee Arnold also fared well, with straight sevens across the board for 21 after dancing the jive to Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now." That was good enough for a third-place tie.
No participants were eliminated after Week 1. Next week, everyone is back Tuesday evening at 9 p.m. for Oscars Night.
