LeBron James is the gold standard for No. 1 overall picks of the NBA draft living up to the hype, and Victor Wembanyama is trying to follow in his footsteps as a phenom prospect who eventually takes over the league.
While it may take the San Antonio Spurs star some time to accomplish that goal, he is now paired with James in another way thanks to Topps.
The trading card company revealed the first-ever James and Wembanyama dual autograph card Tuesday. There are just six cards in existence, and they highlighted James' Rookie of the Year in 2003-04 and Wembanyama's Rookie of the Year in 2023-24:
The card is part of the 2023-24 Topps Mercury: Victor Wembanyama release, which will feature eight cards of the Spurs star per box. Some of those cards will include Chromium autographs, inscriptions and game-worn memorabilia from his rookie campaign.
It is fitting that Wembanyama is sharing such a notable card with James, as he was the most hyped rookie prospect since the King was the No. 1 overall pick of the 2003 NBA draft.
He still has a long way to go to catch up to James' Hall of Fame resume, but the Spurs' franchise player wasted no time announcing his presence in the NBA by averaging 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, a league-best 3.6 blocks and 1.2 steals per game.
Wembanyama's ability to stretch the floor at 7'4" makes him a nightmare matchup for opposing defenses, and he will likely collect plenty of Defensive Player of the Year awards as his career progresses.
If he does, it will make his autograph card all the more valuable.
