Fantasy Football Big Board: Complete 2024 PPR Player Rankings Entering Week 3

Gary Davenport

Fantasy football is an outstanding hobby. An exciting pursuit. But it can also be unpredictable on a level that is migraine-inducing.

And two weeks into the season, pass the Tylenol.

The top of the leaderboard at quarterback is a who's who of "who?"—largely because the New Orleans Saints have scored over 90 points in two games after rolling the Cowboys in Dallas. The No. 1 overall pick in most fantasy drafts has yet to play this season, but his backup has been a top-10 fantasy option. A legend at tight end has been a ghost so far this year. And the wide receivers…

Well, two weeks in all the wide receivers are hurt—or at least it feels that way.

Some fantasy managers have cruised through the chaos and are sitting at 2-0. Others hit the rocks and are 0-2 and looking to stop the skid. And others still have seen both ups and downs—they sit at 1-1, trying to establish some positive momentum.

No matter your situation, at this point we're all headed in the same direction—with our focus squarely on Week 3. Bleacher Report is here to make sure that week is a successful one, by offering up position-by-position PPR rankings and a look at the top 100 players overall.

Quarterbacks

Derek Carr Ron Jenkins/Getty Images

Through two weeks of the 2024 season, the fantasy leaderboard at the quarterback position looks exactly how people expected—if those people lived on Venus and had never seen a football game before.

The two highest-scoring quarterbacks in fantasy are Baker Mayfield of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Derek Carr of the New Orleans Saints—signal-callers who weren't drafted at all in many leagues. Mayfield threw four touchdown passes in Week 1. Carr's Saints are averaging over 45 points a game.

Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals and Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys were all drafted as fantasy starters this summer. All three currently rank outside the top 10 at the position.

Now, as we move further into the season, there's a good chance that some measure of order will be restored to the universe. There's good reason why those quarterbacks were drafted (or not drafted) where they were.

But two weeks in, it's madness under center.

GOOD MATCHUPS

Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals (vs. WAS) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,100]

Burrow's numbers were better in Sunday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, throwing for 258 yards and two touchdowns. The Bengals are desperate for a win, and the Commanders are once again struggling to defend the pass—last year's league-worst pass defense made Daniel Jones look like an actual NFL quarterback in Week 2.

Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals (vs. DET) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,900]

Murray was fantastic in Week 2 against the Los Angeles Rams, amassing a perfect passer rating, throwing three touchdown passes and adding over 50 rushing yards on the way to Week's biggest fantasy line at the quarterback position. Look for that momentum to carry over against a Lions defense that allowed the sixth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks a year ago.

BAD MATCHUPS

Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys (vs. BAL) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,600]

The Dallas offense hasn't found its stride relative to a season ago yet, with Prescott tossing a pair of interceptions in last week's loss to the New Orleans Saints. Now Dallas plays host to a desperate Baltimore Ravens team that ranked dead last in fantasy points surrendered to quarterbacks a year ago.

Anthony Richardson, Indianapolis Colts (at IND) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,700]

Richardson's ability to gain yardage with his legs offers a certain level of immunity to bad fantasy matchups for his position. But the second-year pro is coming off a three-interception clunker of a performance, and the secondary is the strength of a Bears defense that ranks in the bottom-five of the league in fantasy points per game allowed to quarterbacks this season.

SLEEPER

Derek Carr, New Orleans (vs. PHI) [DraftKings DFS Value: $5,800]

Carr's hot start makes it a little difficult to call him a "sleeper," but among quarterbacks with a DFS price tag less than $6,000, Carr's likely the best fantasy option available. The Philly secondary is better this year than last, but not by such a wide margin that it makes this an unfavorable matchup—especially with the Saints piling up over 40 points per game.

Running Backs

Derrick Henry Michael Owens/Getty Images

Injuries are a fact of life in fantasy football. But that doesn't make what's happening at the running back position any easier for fantasy managers to stomach.

Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers was the No. 1 overall pick in the majority of fantasy drafts this summer after posting more PPR points than any running back last season. But McCaffrey has yet to take the field this season and won't until Week 6 (at least)—he was placed on injured reserve Saturday with a calf injury.

McCaffrey's not alone. Last year's No. 3 running back (Raheem Mostert of the Miami Dolphins) missed Week 2 with a chest injury. The NFL's leading rusher entering Week 2 (Joe Mixon of the Houston Texans) managed just 25 yards on nine carries Sunday night against the Chicago Bears before suffering an ankle injury on what looked very much like a hip-drop tackle.

That's by no means a complete list. But it is a depressing one.

GOOD MATCHUPS

Derrick Henry, Baltimore Ravens (at DAL) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,500]

The reeling Ravens are 0-2 after being upset at home by the Las Vegas Raiders, in part because the team hasn't been able to get Henry and the ground game going. Look for Baltimore to make an effort to do just that against a similarly reeling Dallas defense that was just embarrassed to the tune of 180 yards and four touchdowns by Alvin Kamara of the New Orleans Saints.

D'Andre Swift, Chicago Bears (at IND) [DraftKings DFS Value: $5,600]

Swift's first two games with the Bears have been quiet, with just 48 total rushing yards and two yards per carry. If ever there was a game for Swift to get going, it's this week in Indianapolis. The Colts were just shredded by the Green Bay Packers and have surrendered over 200 rushing yards in back-to-back games.

BAD MATCHUPS

James Conner, Arizona Cardinals (vs. DET) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,600]

Conner has been solid through two weeks this season, topping 19 PPR points in both games this year. The sledding won't be easy this week against the Lions though, as Detroit was second in the league last year in run defense and is equally stout this year, having just completely stifled the run game of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kyren Williams, Los Angeles Rams (vs. SF) [DraftKings DFS Value: $7,100]

The good news for Williams is that with the Rams completely devastated by injuries at wide receiver, Williams should be a focal point of the offense in a must-win game. The bad news is that Williams is going to see eight-man fronts all day long from a 49ers run defense that gave up under 90 rushing yards per game a year ago.

SLEEPER

Samaje Perine, Kansas City Chiefs (at ATL) [DraftKings DFS Value: $5,500]

With Isiah Pacheco headed to injured reserve with a busted leg (yep, more injuries in the backfield), the Chiefs have big problems in the backfield. UDFA rookie Carson Steele handled most of the rushing work last week, but Perine is a more experienced player who actually filled in decently in a three-down role while in Cincinnati.

Wide Receivers

Marvin Harrison Jr. Norm Hall/Getty Images

Think the injuries at the running back position are bad?

Compared to the wide receivers, the backs are the picture of health.

Tee Higgins of the Cincinnati Bengals has yet to see the field this year because of a hamstring injury. A similar malady sidelined A.J. Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles after he tweaked his hammy in practice last week. Jordan Addison of the Minnesota Vikings (ankle) and Keenan Allen of the Chicago Bears (heel) also sat out Week 2.

The carnage could have been that much worse. Justin Jefferson of the Vikings and Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions also left their Week 2 games, but thankfully their injuries are believed to be minor. No such luck with Cooper Kupp of the Los Angeles Rams—he's a candidate to join teammate Puka Nacua on injured reserve after getting hip-dropped against the Arizona Cardinals and hurting his ankle. San Francisco's Deebo Samuel is out at least two weeks with a calf strain.

Oh, and with Tua Tagovailoa in the concussion protocol, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle of the Miami Dolphins will be catching worm-burners from Skylar Thompson this week.

Other than that though, everything's great.

GOOD MATCHUPS

Marvin Harrison Jr., Arizona Cardinals (vs. DET) [DraftKings DFS Value: $7,400]

After a one-catch clunker in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills, Harrison blew up last week against the Rams to the tune of 130 receiving yards and two scores...in the first half. Last year, no team in the NFC allowed more passing yards per game than the Detroit Lions, and their secondary has struggled over the first two weeks of the 2024 campaign.

D.J. Moore, Chicago Bears (at IND) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,700]

So far this season, the Chicago passing attack has been all but non-existent, and Moore has just 11 catches for 89 yards over the first two games combined. But ever there was a week for Chicago's offense to get untracked, it's against the Colts. So far this season, the Colts are a top-five fantasy matchup for opposing wide receivers.

BAD MATCHUPS

Malik Nabers, New York Giants (at CLE) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,400]

Nabers had a big game last week against the Commanders, logging a whopping 18 targets and catching 10 passes for 127 yards and a touchdown. However, that huge game came across the league's worst pass defense from a season ago. This week Nabers draws the Browns, who led the league in that category in 2023.

Michael Pittman Jr., Indianapolis Colts (vs. CHI) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,100]

The Bears defense has been stifling against the pass, giving up less than 100 passing yards per game this season. Two games is admittedly a small sample size, but when you add in Anthony Richardson's struggles throwing the ball this season (and Pittman's 7/52/0 stat line through two games) fantasy managers who haven't been blasted by injuries may want to look elsewhere in Week 3.

SLEEPER

Andrei Iosivas, Cincinnati Bengals (vs. WAS) [DraftKings DFS Value: $4,300]

Iosivas only saw four targets last week, catching two passes for seven yards. That's not much of a stat line until you consider that both of those receptions went for touchdowns. There has been a theme that has emerged in fantasy football dating back to last season, and that theme is to attack Washington's porous secondary.

WEEK 3 WIDE RECEIVER RANKINGS

Tight Ends

Travis Kelce Set Number: X164620 TK1

There could be trouble brewing at the tight end position, and it's coming from the place we'd least expect.

For years, Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs has been the model of productivity and consistency. Just two years ago, Kelce was the No. 1 fantasy tight end by a ridiculous margin.

But through two weeks this year, Kelce has been targeted just seven times, catching four passes for 39 yards. Last week against the Bengals, Kelce had one grab for five yards.

There were at least a dozen tight ends who had at least as many PPR points in Week 2 alone as Kelce has for the season. They include such luminaries as Luke Schoonmaker of the Dallas Cowboys, Mike Gesicki of the Cincinnati Bengals and Jonnu Smith of the Miami Dolphins—none of whom were drafted in most fantasy leagues.

It's too early to panic. But Kelce's last regular-season game with double-digit PPR points was Week 14 of the 2023 season. His last touchdown was in Week 11. And we are talking about a 35-year-old who had an...interesting offseason.

It's an unsettling start to the year.

GOOD MATCHUPS

Brock Bowers, Las Vegas Raiders (vs. CAR) [DraftKings DFS Value: $5,400]

Bowers played a big-time role in the Raiders' upset of the Baltimore Ravens last week, catching nine passes for 98 yards. The rookie from Georgia now has at least six catches and 55 receiving yards in both of his NFL starts, and this week the Raiders host a Carolina Panthers team that has done exactly nothing right this season.

George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers (at LAR) [DraftKings DFS Value: $5,700]

Kittle found the end zone for the first time last week against the Minnesota Vikings, and he's a good bet to find paydirt for the second straight week in Los Angeles this week. The Rams gave up the sixth-most PPR points to tight ends last season, and through two games this season they have remained generous to the position.

BAD MATCHUPS

Cole Kmet, Chicago Bears (at Indianapolis) [DraftKings DFS Value: $3,900]

Some half-witted fantasy analyst who looks like me actually kind of liked Kmet this year as a late-round flier at tight end. But Chicago's passing game has been all but invisible through two games this season, and Kmet has been targeted just three times per game. He's barely rosterable—and certainly not startable.

Sam LaPorta, Detroit Lions (at ARI) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,000]

LaPorta is a must-start—frankly this is just a week where there isn't much in the way of bad matchups for bigger names at the position. But the Arizona Cardinals have reversed their long-standing tradition of getting roasted by tight ends.

SLEEPER

Jonnu Smith, Miami Dolphins (at SEA) [DraftKings DFS Value: $3,400]

The situation at quarterback in Miami is admittedly a question mark. But Skylar Thompson could look to throw the ball underneath more, and if Tyler Huntley takes over as the team's starter in Week 4 (or beyond), he showed an affinity for throwing to the tight end in Baltimore. Smith also posted a 6/53/0 stat line last week on seven targets.

WEEK 3 TIGHT END RANKINGS

1. Trey McBride, ARI (vs. DET)

2. Sam LaPorta, DET (at ARI)

3. Travis Kelce, KC (at ATL)

4. George Kittle, SF (at LAR)

Kickers and Defenses

Austin Seibert Greg Fiume/Getty Images

Kickers don't get a ton of run in this column, because...they're kickers. Many fantasy leagues in recent years have eschewed the position altogether.

But when a kicker finishes a week as a top-20 player overall, that merits a little dap. And last week against the Giants, Austin Seibert of the Washington Commanders did just that.

In his first game with the team after Washington parted ways with kicker Cade York, Seibert accounted for all of Washington's points against the New York Giants, kicking seven field goals that ranged between 26 and 45 yards.

The sixth-year pro, who kicked all of one field goal last year for the New York Jets, told reporters after the game it felt better to be on the field again.

"I guess that's a great way to kind of welcome myself to the team and win a football game, so I'm happy with it," he said. "No reason to make it bigger than it is. Just go out there and do what I do."

Kickers are people too!

GOOD MATCHUPS

Evan McPherson, Cincinnati Bengals (vs. WAS)

McPherson had a solid game last week against the Kansas City Chiefs, making four field goals, including a 53-yarder. In 2023, no team in the NFC gave up more fantasy points to kickers than the Commanders, and while the Bengals were better offensively last week, the team still isn't firing on all cylinders.

Las Vegas Raiders (vs. CAR) [DraftKings DFS Value: $3,500]

The switch from Bryce Young to Andy Dalton in Carolina is a step in the right direction, if only because there was nowhere to go but up. But the Panthers are still a disaster, and the Raiders quietly played solid defense in the second half last week against the Baltimore Ravens. Edge-rusher Maxx Crosby should feast (again) in Week 3.

BAD MATCHUPS

Younghoe Koo, Atlanta Falcons (vs. KC)

To the Atlanta Falcons' credit, the team looked light-years better offensively in their upset win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. But the Kansas City Chiefs are a much better team against the pass than the Eagles, and no team in the NFL gave up fewer fantasy points to kickers last season.

Dallas Cowboys (vs. BAL) [DraftKings DFS Value: $3,400]

The Dallas offense was stunningly porous last week against the Saints, allowing 44 points and 432 yards of offense. Now the Cowboys have to take on a Ravens team desperate to avoid an 0-3 start. The Cowboys were one of the first defenses drafted in a lot of leagues—and now starting them in Week 3 is a dice roll.

SLEEPER

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Defense (vs. DEN) [DraftKings DFS Value: $3,000]

The Buccaneers limited the Detroit Lions to 16 points last week. Now they play a Denver Broncos team that has struggled to move the ball starting a rookie quarterback who has thrown zero touchdown passes against four interceptions over his first two NFL starts. Bo Nix may well be good someday. But it isn't today.

Top 100 Players Overall/"Flex" Rankings

Saquon Barkley Pedro Vilela/Getty Images

Before we get to this week's list of the top 100 players overall in PPR leagues, it's caveat/advice time.

I know, I know—it's your favorite part of the week.

The first is the same as always—there are no quarterbacks listed here. If your fantasy league has a "superflex" spot, then assuming you have a viable QB2 he should be in that spot.

Lamar Jackson of the Ravens is viable. Andy Dalton of the Panthers is not.

This week's advice is this: Don't panic. There's nothing fun about an 0-2 start. You spend months waiting for fantasy season to arrive only to see things start off on the wrong foot. Injuries strike. Guys don't meet expectations. You just run into a buzzsaw of an opponent who posts a ridiculous score.

It happens to the best of us. Lord knows it has happened enough to me this year.

But you can peel off a couple of wins just as easily as you can rack up a couple of losses. Those underperformers can rebound. The waiver wire can plug holes created by injury. Maybe Week 3 is your turn to be the buzzsaw.

Take a breath. Stay active. And go get a win.

1-2 ain't great. But that first win will feel good.
