Mets Honor Grimace with Purple Seat at Citi Field After 1st Pitch Video Went Viral

Grimace now has a place at Citi Field.

The New York Mets announced that they had installed a commemorative seat at Citi Field in honor of the McDonalds mascot in Section 302.

Grimace threw out the first pitch at the Mets' June 12 matchup against the Miami Marlins. New York won that game 10-4 and proceeded to go on a seven-game winning streak following the viral first pitch.

The seat lies in row six and seat 12 of section 302, playing homage to the game he threw out the first pitch. The commemoration comes as a part of the team's fan appreciation night.

When Grimace threw out the first pitch, the Mets were 29-37 and the season appeared to be heading towards a disappointing end. The seven-game winning streak helped stabilize the team and it has carried this momentum to the end.

New York is currently 81-68 and tied with the Atlanta Braves for the final NL Wild Card spot. The team is also just two games behind the Arizona Diamondbacks for the second Wild Card spot, so a strong finish to the season could lift the team to a playoff berth.

With that in mind, trying to recapture some of the "Grimace magic" appears to be a solid idea.
