It's only Week 2, but Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt may have already made the best defensive play of the year.
On the final play of the third quarter in Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Taylor-Britt came down with a one-handed interception on a pass from Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes that was intended for rookie receiver Xavier Worthy:
Taylor-Britt's incredible interception backs up the bulletin board material he gave the Chiefs when he told reporters earlier this week that he was unimpressed by Worthy's skills, saying he has "speed, that's about it" and "he can run straight" when asked what the dynamic rookie brings to Kansas City's offense. While it was thought that Mahomes would target Taylor-Britt for his trash talk, the 24-year-old proved that he was up for the challenge.
Taylor-Britt's interception was also reminiscent of Odell Beckham Jr.'s famous one-handed catch against the Dallas Cowboys in 2014.
The Bengals showed no fear entering their Week 2 matchup against the reigning back-to-back Super Bowl champions. Star receiver Ja'Marr Chase declared to reporters that Cincinnati is "the team to beat in the AFC" and noted, "Everybody knows that, bro."
In Sunday's game, the Bengals took a 16-10 lead into halftime before a back-and-forth second half. Mahomes also threw a pass in the first quarter that was intercepted by Cincinnati linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither.
If the Bengals can close out the victory, they will prove to the masses that they are one of the top contenders in the AFC this season. However, Taylor-Britt's interception will be remembered as one of the biggest plays of the year regardless of whether they win or lose.
