Warriors Rumors: Giannis is 'Dream' Player for Joe Lacob amid Jimmy Butler Trade Buzz

Giannis Antetokounmpo has been a member of the Milwaukee Bucks throughout his NBA career, but the Golden State Warriors would reportedly like to change that.

During a discussion with insider Tim Kawakami, Sam Amick of The Athletic pointed out Warriors governor Joe Lacob "has had dreams of Giannis coming the Warriors' way for a very long time" (13:30-15 minute mark).

Amick also mentioned Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler as a potential player of interest for Golden State. Butler will be a free agent next offseason if he opts out of his player option and doesn't come to terms on an extension with the Heat.

While Butler is an excellent player, Antetokounmpo would be an even more important addition for the Warriors.

It should be noted, though, Amick called Golden State landing the future Hall of Famer "unlikely" even if it is "worth monitoring" whether the "wheels fell off the Bucks."

Antetokounmpo is signed through the 2026-27 season with a player option for 2027-28, but he could hypothetically look for an exit plan if he doesn't see a realistic championship future in Milwaukee. After all, Damian Lillard (34 years old), Khris Middleton (33) and Brook Lopez (36) don't offer the longest championship window for the 29-year-old.

Pairing Antetokounmpo with Stephen Curry would also be a nightmare for opposing defenses.

Curry is the best shooter in NBA history and forces defenders to extend well beyond the arc, which opens up space in the lane for his teammates. And there may be nobody better in the entire league at capitalizing on space in the lane while attacking the rim than Antetokounmpo.

It may be a long shot, but such a tandem would be the stuff of dreams for Lacob and Warriors fans.
