Cam Ward Hyped as NFL Draft's Top QB Over Shedeur Sanders By CFB Fans After Miami Win

Julia Stumbaugh

It only took Miami quarterback Cam Ward three starts with the Hurricanes to convince college football fans he's ready for the top of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Ward went 19-of-28 for 346 yards and five touchdowns on Saturday in Miami's 62-0 win over Ball State.

Ward, who threw four of his five touchdown passes in the first half and sat out the fourth quarter, did not need a full game to achieve a record-setting performance.

The win made him the first quarterback in Florida history to open a season with a trio of 300 passing-yard performances.

Miami meanwhile improved to a 3-0 record as the Hurricanes set a program record with 750 yards of offense.

After two seasons at Washington State and his early-season success with Miami, some fans have seen enough from Ward to project the quarterback as a top-five pick in the 2025 draft.

After six signal callers were taken in the top 12 picks of the 2024 draft, some fans are expecting a similarly quarterback-heavy top of the 2025 lottery.

Ward's performance bolstered arguments that he will be selected higher than other quarterbacks including Colorado's Shedeur Sanders, Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart and Texas' Quinn Ewers.

Fans will be able to see Ward and the Hurricanes back in action next Saturday as No. 10 Miami takes on South Florida on the road in search of the program's second straight 4-0 start to a season.
