6 New Hypothetical NFL Trade Packages for Haason Reddick amid Jets Contract Dispute

Kristopher Knox

The standoff between pass-rusher Haason Reddick and the New York Jets doesn't appear to be nearing its conclusion.

The Jets traded a conditional 2026 third-round pick to acquire Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles in April. Since reporting for his physical, however, Reddick has been away from the team while requesting a new contract—and then shifting gears to requesting a trade.

According to SNY's Connor Hughes, "people that know him well" believe Reddick could be willing to sit out the entire season. That stance could land Reddick on the trade market sooner than later.

"[The Jets'] options appear clear: keep him on the reserve list until he reports or attempt to trade him closer to the trade deadline. The latter is looking more likely, according to multiple league execs," ESPN's Jeremy Fowler wrote on Wednesday.

While the NFL did move the trade deadline back a week this year (November 5), interested teams still have less than two months to make a play for Reddick.

Here, we'll examine six teams that should be interested in the two-time Pro Bowler and some hypothetical trade packages that just might get a deal done.

Arizona Cardinals

Jets Get: 2026 Third-Round Pick

The Arizona Cardinals should be atop the list of interested teams if Reddick does become available. Arizona recorded just 33 sacks as a team last season, and it has already lost pass-rusher B.J. Ojulari for the season to a torn ACL.

The big question here is whether Reddick would want to return to the franchise that drafted him. That remains an unknown, but the presence of head coach Jonathan Gannon could help draw his interest.

Gannon was the Eagles' defensive coordinator in 2022, a campaign Reddick finished with a career-high 16 sacks.

With $25.3 million in cap space available, Arizona could also afford to sign Reddick to an extension.

At this point in Reddick's contract sage, New York is unlikely to get back what it sent to Philadelphia—a conditional 2026 third-round pick that can become a second-round pick if he reaches 67.5 percent of playing time and 10 sacks—but the Cardinals might be willing to offer something similar.

Based on its Week 1 performance, Arizona might be a little more competitive this season than most expected, but it still feels likely that the Cardinals will be picking in the top half of each round. To balance out the trade, the Cards request one of New York's two 2025 sixth-round selections.

Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals could use a high-end complement to pass-rusher Trey Hendrickson. Reddick could be that No. 2 sack artist, though the Bengals have less cap space ($10.8 million) than the cost of Reddick's base salary ($14.3 million).

A creative solution for both teams could involve sending franchise-tagged wide receiver Tee Higgins to New York. Higgins has been out with a hamstring injury and has shot down the idea that his absence is contract-related.

"I just don't understand why fans think I'm faking an injury, when for me to get an extension for a contract, the deadline is over," Higgins said, per ESPN's Ben Baby.

The deadline for Higgins to sign a long-term deal passed on July 15. His only option is to play out the season under the tag and test free agency in 2025. However, that doesn't mean he has to play for the Bengals.

Trades involving franchise-tagged players that come after the extension deadline are rare, but they have happened. In 2019, for example, the Seattle Seahawks acquired the franchise-tagged Jadeveon Clowney in August.

Higgins is a big piece of Cincinnati's offense when healthy, but if the Bengals feel destined to lose him in the spring, they might consider this swap. Moving Higgins' $21.8 million base salary would give the Bengals enough space to give Reddick a raise, while the receiver would give Aaron Rodgers another reliable target in the Jets offense.

Detroit Lions

Lions Get: Edge Haason Reddick

Jets Get: 2026 Third-Round Pick

The Detroit Lions' Super Bowl window is open, and adding a pass-rusher like Reddick could help them tremendously.

The Lions have one star sack artist in Aidan Hutchinson, but their edge depth is questionable. Defensive tackle Alim McNeill ranked second behind Hutchinson among Detroit defenders with only five sacks last season.

The Lions did add Marcus Davenport, who had a half-sack in Week 1, during the offseason. However, there's still room for another disruptive defender in the rotation. Reddick, who recorded 11 sacks and 35 quarterback pressures in 2023, would fit the bill.

With $31.6 million in cap space available, the Lions could afford to turn a play for Reddick into a long-term investment.

With Detroit firmly in win-now mode, it probably wouldn't be willing to part with a quality contributor. It could, however, offer the Jets a chance to recoup some of their investment in Reddick.

Jets general manager Joe Douglas might not like the idea of accepting a lesser deal than the one he made Philadelphia, but he might not have much choice in the matter. At this point, Reddick probably isn't going to reach the parameters necessary for that conditional third-pick to become a second-rounder anyway.

Las Vegas Raiders

Like the Lions, the Las Vegas Raiders have a legitimate star pass-rusher on their roster. Maxx Crosby is one of the most disruptive defenders, at any position, in the entire league. The Raiders also have a strong No. 2 option in Malcolm Koonce.

However, Koonce just landed on injured reserve with a knee injury and could potentially be out for the year, according to ESPN's Paul Gutierrez. Acquiring Reddick would give Las Vegas a potentially elite pass-rushing tandem to sandwich around star defensive tackle Christian Wilkins.

Reddick could also likely land a long-term deal with the Raiders, who have $29.1 million in cap space available.

To land Reddick, the Raiders could offer 2023 second-round pick Michael Mayer. The former Notre Dame tight end has flashed some promise at the NFL level, but is likely stuck behind rookie Brock Bowers in Las Vegas' priority order.

Bowers caught six passes for 58 yards in Week 1, while Mayer caught two passes for three yards.

Tight end is one of the few positions on New York's offensive depth chart that could clearly use a significant boost. Mayer possesses more upside than proven production, but he'd have a chance to supplant Tyler Conklin as Rodgers' top receiving target at the position right away.

San Francisco 49ers

49ers Get: Edge Haason Reddick

Jets Get: DE Yetur Gross-Matos, Conditional 2025 Fourth-Round Pick

The San Francisco 49ers added Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos this offseason to help complement pass-rusher Nick Bosa. However, Gross-Matos suffered a knee injury in San Francisco's preseason finale and has yet to make his 49ers debut.

Gross-Matos did return to practice on Thursday.

While Gross-Matos can be an effective edge-rusher—he had 4.5 sacks and 11 quarterback pressures last season—Reddick would provide San Francisco with an upgrade. And while few teams will be eager to help out the 49ers this season, sending Reddick to San Francisco would at least get him out of the conference.

In this hypothetical scenario, the 49ers swap Gross-Matos for Reddick while sending the Jets a conditional 2025 fourth-round pick. That selection could become a third-round pick—the 49ers have two of them, one compensatory—if, say, Reddick reaches 10 sacks and helps San Francisco reach the NFC title game.

That's a more than fair offer, especially considering a 2025 fourth-round pick and a 2026 third-round pick should hold similar trade value. The Jets would also get a defender who can contribute now and who is under contract through 2025.

The 49ers might not be eager to sign Reddick to a long-term deal since quarterback Brock Purdy will be extension-eligible next offseason. With $56.7 million in cap space available, though, they could offer him a slight 2024 pay increase and a stage on which to audition for next year's free-agent market.

Washington Commanders

Commanders Get: Edge Haason Reddick

Jets Get: CB Emmanuel Forbes Jr., 2026 Fourth-Round Pick

For the Washington Commanders, this hypothetical trade package would be about dumping cornerback Emmanuel Forbes Jr. as it would be about adding Reddick.

The Commanders could use edge-rushing help after dealing both Montez Sweat and Chase Young at last year's deadline. Washington added Dante Fowler Jr. and Dorance Armstrong this offseason, but neither possesses Reddick's upside.

Forbes, a 2023 first-round pick, was a borderline disaster for Washington as a rookie, allowing an opposing passer rating of 103.0 in coverage. He was benched in Week 1 and recently underwent thumb surgery—though he's not expected to land on injured reserve.

For the Jets, this trade would essentially allow them to abandon Reddick's contract drama and recoup some draft capital while taking a flier on a young player at a premium position. There's no guarantee that Forbes would become a star in New York, but he'd probably fare better playing in a secondary that features Sauce Gardner and Tony Adams than he has with Washington's lackluster group.

The Commanders, meanwhile, could pull the plug on a potential draft bust while adding a centerpiece player to their pass rush. With $26.5 million in cap space, Washington could afford to give Reddick the contract he's seeking.
