Yankees Rumors: Jasson Domínguez Called Up; No. 1 Prospect Expected to Play Every Day

The New York Yankees activated top outfield prospect Jasson Domínguez on Monday, the team announced.

SNY's Andy Martino reported that Domínguez will play "just about every day" for New York as the team attempts to earn an AL East title and secure a spot in the postseason.

He's currently slated to bat in the No. 6 spot in the team's lineup on Monday.

The 21-year-old is considered the Yankees' No. 1 prospect in the latest rankings from MLB.com. He previously spent time on the injured list due to a left oblique strain.

Domínguez was able to return when rosters expanded from 26 to 28 players on Sept. 1, although the Yankees didn't call him up.

In 58 games across three teams in the minors, he's hitting .314 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs. He's also recorded 16 steals and eight doubles while posting an impressive .880 OPS.

Domínguez was previously called up by New York in Sept. 2023, racking up four homers and seven RBIs in eight games to go along with a .258/.303/.677 slash line. However, his MLB introduction was cut short after he suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament that required Tommy John surgery.

Aaron Judge and Juan Soto have thrived in the outfield, showcasing their power at the plate and helping the Yankees offense score the second-most runs in the majors. However, Alex Verdugo's first season in the Bronx has left a lot to be desired.

The 28-year-old is hitting just .235 with 11 home runs in 578 plate appearances, striking out 89 times. He's cooled off after a hot start to the season, recording just two homers since the start of July.

Domínguez will see action right away, as the Yankees face off against the Kansas City Royals on Monday at 7:05 p.m. ET. They currently hold a narrow lead of 0.5 games over the Baltimore Orioles for the top spot in the division.
