Daniel Jones, Giants Ripped by NFL Fans for Blowout Loss to Sam Darnold, Vikings

Daniel Jones and the New York Giants didn't begin the 2024 season on a high note.

Jones struggled mightily as the Giants suffered a blowout loss at the hands of Sam Darnold and the Minnesota Vikings, losing by the final score of 28-6 on Sunday.

New York fell in an early 14-3 hole in the second quarter and was never able to recover, mustering just 240 yards of offense. Jones finished 22-of-42 for 186 yards, throwing an interception that was returned for a touchdown by Vikings defensive end Andrew Van Ginkel.

He was picked off again near the start of the fourth quarter.

After the game, Giants coach Brian Daboll said he did not consider benching Jones:

In Jones' first regular-season game since suffering a torn ACL in Nov. 2023, the signal-caller was unable to stay effective on the ground. He was only able to record 15 yards on six rush attempts.

Meanwhile, Darnold's debut for the Vikings was impressive. The 27-year-old completed 79.2 percent of his throws for 208 yards and two touchdowns against one interception.

Justin Jefferson finished with a team-high six targets, racking up four receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown.

Fans were critical of Jones' performance after the game.

Malik Nabers was one of the few bright spots for New York, as the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 draft still finished with five catches for 66 yards despite the team's poor offensive output.

The Giants will attempt to bounce back in their Week 2 matchup against the Washington Commanders.
