49ers' Brock Purdy 'Would Always Poke Fun at' Jets' Breece Hall, Says ISU Teammate

San Francisco 49ers Brock Purdy quarterback was "competitive" with New York Jets running back Breece Hall when the two roomed together at Iowa State, their former Cyclones teammate Mike Rose told ESPN's Rich Cimini.

"It definitely got competitive," Rose said, per Cimini. "Breece and Brock would definitely go at it. They were always trying to one-up each other, whether it was Madden or anything.

"Brock was always harder on Breece to get him to come along a little bit, just like with football and stuff. Brock was the perfect example of how to go about it. Brock was kind of like a good mentor for Breece. I think Brock would always poke fun at him."

Purdy and Hall roomed together for two of the 49ers quarterback's four years at the school between 2018 and 2021, according to Cimini.

The old roommates will meet up again on Monday when the Jets open the 2024 regular season on the road in San Francisco.

Hall recently raised Purdy's success in rising to the 49ers' starting job in an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show.

"I'm surprised how fast it happened," Hall told Eisen (1:25 mark). "But as far as his success, just knowing the type of person he is, the type of leader he is, I wouldn't say I'm surprised. Being around a guy like him every day and seeing the way he lives his life, how he is within his faith in God, and his relationship with God, and just seeing how he works every day, his success now doesn't surprise me."

Purdy had similarly high praise for Hall when speaking to reporters in the week leading up to Week 1 (h/t Jets team reporter Ethan Greenberg.)

"One of the most talented football players that I've ever shared the field with or just seen play football live. Breece is one of the most talented guys," Purday said. Seeing his development from when he got [to Iowa State] as a freshman, to then us pushing each other in the weight room and getting on the field and the relationship that we had, he was a little brother to me, bringing him under my wing and just trying to push him and want to see him be his best."

Purdy continued: "To see his development over the three years that he was there and that we were there together was pretty cool. He's very talented. He's a freak athlete. I want nothing but the best for Breece. Love him."

The Jets and 49ers are slated to kick off the first Monday Night Football of the 2024 season at 8:15 p.m. ET.
