US Open Tennis 2024: Updated Men's Bracket and Final Predictions

Nicholas Nathanson

The 2024 U.S. Open men's singles tournament is down to its final two contestants.

On Sunday, Taylor Fritz will have an opportunity to end a drought that began on these courts 21 years ago with Andy Roddick.

No American man has won a Grand Slam in men's singles since the 2003 U.S. Open; however, before Fritz can achieve this feat, he'll face one of the most difficult tasks in all of tennis.

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, who has only dropped two sets throughout the tournament, will be the opponent for the eleventh seed.

Can Fritz be the one to finally overcome a significant hump in United States men's tennis?

On Friday, Taylor Fritz defeated Frances Tiafoe in a come-from-behind five-set thriller to reach his first career Grand Slam final.

The American struggled early, but as the match progressed, his serve and sudden aggression were too much for his American compatriot, who, following the fourth set, felt a sudden wave of fatigue.

Despite the 26-year-old's career-best result, he's about to face the toughest match of his career.

In 2024, Jannik Sinner has won 34 of 36 matches on the hard-court surface, including lifting his first-career Grand Slam title at the 2024 Australian Open.

The top-seeded Italian has breezed through competition, dropping just two sets total, despite facing tough opponents such as Tommy Paul, hard-court specialist Daniil Medvedev, and most recently, an in-form Jack Draper.

Fueled by the home crowd, Fritz might be able to grab a set.

However, anything more than that seems quite unlikely. The American will need to play the most physical match of his career and avoid playing defense against an opponent who hits groundstrokes with overwhelming power.

Despite Fritz's opportunity to end a long drought in American men's tennis, Sinner is just performing at a different level, making the prospects of a significant upset that much more unlikely.

Prediction: Sinner in four sets
