Packers' Jordan Love Suffers Apparent Lower Leg Injury in Week 1 Loss vs. Eagles

Andrew Peters

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love suffered an apparent leg injury in the final moments of Friday's season-opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The fourth-year player was brought down awkwardly while trying to get the ball out with less than 10 seconds remaining and was in obvious pain, favoring his left leg. He was helped off the field and didn't return in the final seconds as Malik Willis stepped in but failed to pull off a Hail Mary attempt.

When asked after the game what Love's status was, head coach Matt LaFleur simply responded, "I don't know."

After leaving the field, he was seen hobbling on the sideline and did not receive attention from trainers. While there has been no update at this point, it seems likely he'll undergo testing in the coming days to get a diagnosis of the injury.

Love finished Friday's game with 260 passing yards, a touchdown and an interception on 17-of-34 passing—a mostly underwhelming game considering how he ended last season.

Love, in his first season as a starter, had 4,159 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 2023. He led Green Bay to the playoffs, where the Packers upset the Dallas Cowboys in the wild-card round before falling just shy of taking down the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round.

That breakout year was enough for the Packers to award him with a four-year, $220 million contract extension this offseason, making him tied for the highest annual salary in the NFL.

Should Love have to miss any time following Friday's injury, the Packers will have to turn to Willis, who was a late addition to the team after Green Bay traded for him from the Tennessee Titans in August.

Willis, a third-round pick in 2022, has little experience through his first two NFL seasons, totaling just 350 passing yards and three interceptions in 11 games.
