Video: Cowboys' Jerry Jones Discusses Possibility of Hiring Deion Sanders as HC

The jury may not be out on Deion Sanders coaching Jerry Jones' Dallas Cowboys some day.

During an interview with ESPN's Stephen A. Smith, the Cowboys owner dodged a question about Sanders potentially coaching Dallas one day but still offered a glimpse into his feelings by giving the current Colorado Buffaloes coach a glowing description.

When Smith asked Jones if he was "crazy enough" to hire Sanders one day, the Cowboys owner replied (one-hour, six-minute mark):

"No, but he does know how to spell well enough and not answer a hypothetical question. ... I have always admired him both on and off the field. Some of the best stories that I have to tell about my time in sports have been Deion-type stories."

Sanders played for Jones' Cowboys for five seasons, winning a Super Bowl in 1995 with the franchise. He was named All-Pro in four of his five seasons with the franchise and was utilized on offense, defense and special teams.

Sanders took over the Buffaloes program in 2023 and steered the team to a 4-8 record. While this was not good enough to reach bowl eligibility, it was an improvement from a 1-11 season for the program in 2022.

Sanders has stated his desire to remain with the Buffaloes, but a job as prestigious as one with the Cowboys could be difficult to pass up. The franchise has won five Super Bowls and are the most valuable franchise in professional sports.

The team is currently in strong condition, with players like CeeDee Lamb inked to long-term contracts. While it may be a few years until Sanders would consider the job, the thought of him coaching America's Team is a fun one to imagine.
