Lions GM Brad Holmes: Winning the Super Bowl Is Expectation for 2024 NFL Season

Julia Stumbaugh

Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes gave a confident answer as to what his expectations are for his team in 2024.

"For this season? Win the Super Bowl," Holmes said (h/t Ryan Ermanni of Fox 2 News.)

When asked what made him confident the Lions could win the Super Bowl, Holmes answered, "I just think, going back to day one, that we never wavered in our process in terms of roster building" (5:35 mark.)

Holmes continued: "We've kept our approach and our process very consistent in terms of how we build it, the opportunities that we provide players, and that's what gives us confidence. We've been saying this since Day 1, we want to get better every single year. And we've done that, and we plan to continue to do that."

That outlook for the 2024 season is much different than how Holmes described the Lions' goals prior to the 2023 campaign.

At the time, the Lions had just recovered from a 1-6 start to barely miss the playoffs with a 9-8 finish to the 2022 season.

Holmes told reporters prior to Week 1 of the 2023 campaign that he had "very high" confidence the Lions could win the NFC North (h/t NFL.com's Nick Shook) but did not describe championship aspirations.

After the Lions went on to win the division and make a run to the NFC Championship, Holmes has even higher hopes for his team next spring in Jared Goff's fourth season as the franchise's starting quarterback.

The Lions are set to open the 2024 season on Sept. 8 against the Los Angeles Rams in a rematch of last season's wild card victory.
