Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr. Calls Out Players Who Voted Him Most Overrated MLB Player

Zach Bachar

New York Yankees third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. responded to the MLB peers that voted him as the most overrated player in the majors.

"What was it, like 11 players? I definitely knew who they were talking to, too. It wasn't hard to find out who the players were," Chisholm said, per Fox Sports' Deesha Thosar. "I didn't really care. Who cares what somebody else has to say about me? If he really voted that I'm overrated, that means you got something in your psyche, brother."

The Athletic conducted a poll of over 100 players in June, with Chisholm receiving 20.3 percent of the votes to earn the unfortunate title.

"Like me, I'm not going out and voting who's an overrated player because I don't even know who an overrated player is," he said. "I don't look at people that hard. I only look at people who are good, I'm sorry. So you call me overrated, I gotta be good. That's how I look at it."

Although he started the season with the Miami Marlins, Chisholm was traded to the Yankees on July 27.

While only 59 players voted for the most overrated title, Chisholm still received twice as many votes as Los Angeles Angels infielder Anthony Rendon at No. 2.

The 26-year-old has an All-Star appearance under his belt and was the cover athlete for MLB The Show in 2023. Chisholm's individual production doesn't match other cover athletes for the popular video game such as Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani, as he owns just one season with an OPS above .800 throughout his career.

However, he's off to an extremely hot start in New York after switching to third base. Chisholm is hitting .296 with seven home runs and 11 RBIs as well as four stolen bases in 13 games.

He's provided a spark to a Yankees lineup that struggled to produce outside of Judge and Juan Soto, as New York owns a record of 9-4 with the former Marlin. Chisholm also became the first player in franchise history to record four homers throughout his first three games with the team.

He's already recorded a career-high 20 home runs in 2024 and is one of five MLB players to record at least 20 homers and 25 steals this season (h/t Thosar). Despite some midseason struggles, the Yankees are now tied with the Baltimore Orioles for the best record in baseball at 70-49.

Chisholm will look to continue his exceptional start at the plate and help New York contend for the AL East title during the team's next game, a clash with the Chicago White Sox on Monday at 8:10 p.m. ET.
