MLB Playoff Standings 2024: Updated Team Records, Seedings and Projected Bracket

Andrew Peters

The MLB All-Star break is now weeks in the past, the trade deadline has passed and the playoff picture is starting to come together.

The Baltimore Orioles and Philadelphia Phillies have established themselves as the top teams in their respective leagues, but the gap isn't too wide, so the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to dethrone them before the end of the year.

Here's a look at what the postseason would look like if it started today.

While the current seeding is a good indicator of how the playoffs will look, it's by no means set in stone.

As is the case every year, teams can end the season on massive winning streaks or dreadful losing streaks and quickly change their playoff standing.

One of the key races to watch heading down the stretch is the battle for the No. 1 seed in the American League. The Orioles and Yankees have traded the crown back and forth this season, though Baltimore has remained the top seed in recent weeks.

New York had a mid-season skid heading into the All-Star Break, but have since turned things around to stay well within reach of the Orioles. The two teams will match up in the second-to-last week of the regular season, and that series could have plenty of implications.

In the National League, a pair of strong teams have found themselves in vulnerable positions heading into the final stretch of the season.

The Atlanta Braves have had their season completely derailed by injuries, with Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuña Jr. being the most notable. Those injuries have led to the Braves being on the cusp of missing the postseason, with the New York Mets, San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals all just two or fewer games behind them.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are less of a threat to miss the postseason, but the preseason favorite to run the NL West could very well have to face a wild-card series. The Dodgers are 16-16 since July 1 and are just three games ahead of the San Diego Padres and 3.5 games ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

If Los Angeles faces a rough ending to the season, the Padres or Diamondbacks could steal the NL West.
