Djokovic Beats Nadal: Updated Olympic Men's Tennis Bracket After Monday's Results

Nicholas Nathanson

"The King of Clay" has fallen.

In their 60th and potentially last battle, Novak Djokovic defeated Rafael Nadal in straight sets to reach the third round of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The defeat marks Nadal's fifth career loss at Roland Garros (113-5) and third to Djokovic, whose hopes of an elusive first-career Olympic gold medal are still very much alive.

The head-to-head battle on the clay-court surface has historically been in Nadal's favor, though injury setbacks have resulted in immense struggles and a loss of top form for the Spaniard, who has competed in just two Grand Slams since the 2022 US Open.

With Djokovic's victory, here's how the bracket looks now.

Rafael Nadal's aspirations of winning another title at Roland Garros will have to wait another year.

The 14-time French Open champion lost to Novak Djokovic in their historic 60th career match (Djokovic leads 31-29).

While Nadal struggled to open the match, Djokovic began it in impeccable form, securing the first set 6-1.

Eventually, the Spaniard found his signature tennis, winning four straight games in the second set, though he was unable to do enough to defeat the 24-time Grand Slam champion.

The victory marks Djokovic's ninth against Nadal on clay and keeps his hopes of winning an Olympic gold medal alive.

The Serbian, who faced arguably the most difficult task in the second round by playing Nadal, won't likely face any significant obstacles until a potential quarterfinal matchup with Stefanos Tsitsipas.
