Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton Expected to Come Off IL on Monday amid Hamstring Injury

The New York Yankees are getting an offensive boost soon.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters on Friday that slugger Giancarlo Stanton is expected to be activated off the injured list on Monday (via SNY's Phillip Martinez).

Although the 34-year-old was off to a hot start to begin the 2024 season, he hasn't appeared in a game since June 22 due to a left hamstring strain. He should help a Yankees offense that has struggled to produce outside of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto.

While Stanton has struggled to piece together consecutive healthy seasons since he was acquired by the Yankees in a blockbuster 2017 trade, he was in the midst of an impressive 2024 campaign prior to his latest injury.

In 69 games, he racked up 18 home runs and 45 RBIs while hitting .246 and posting a .795 OPS. Despite missing over a month, Stanton still ranks No. 15 on the home run leaderboard among all American League players.

His return to the lineup should help a Yankees team that has struggled to replace his power at the plate. While Judge and Soto have both surpassed 25 homers, no other player for New York has more than 10.

Stanton should also bring some consistency to the designated hitter spot, although the Yankees could still make additions to their lineup before Tuesday's trade deadline. SNY's Andy Martino reported on Friday that New York is "actively seeking" an upgrade at third base as well as bullpen and rotation help.

The former National League MVP will be activated off the injured list ahead of an important series for the Yankees, as they face off against a Philadelphia Phillies team that currently owns the best record in the majors at 64-38.

While New York has a commendable 60-44 record of its own, Boone's team has lost 22 of the past 32 games.
