MLB Rumors: Phillies Expected to Trade for Reliever; Blue Jays' Chad Green Linked

The Philadelphia Phillies could bolster their bullpen before the trade deadline.

Per MLB Network's Jon Morosi, the Phillies are expected to trade for "at least one" leverage reliever ahead of Tuesday's deadline. Morosi added Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Chad Green is one of Philadelphia's top targets.

The report comes after Philadelphia traded right-handed reliever Seranthony Domínguez to the Baltimore Orioles for outfielder Austin Hays.

The Phillies already have a talented bullpen highlighted by Matt Strahm, Jeff Hoffman and Jose Alvarado, but adding some depth could aid them as they look to make another World Series run.

A handful of names are reportedly on Philadelphia's radar as it looks to make a play in the coming days.

The Philadelphia Inquirer's Scott Lauber reported Thursday that the Phillies are interested in Los Angeles Angels' Carlos Estévez, Washington Nationals' Kyle Finnegan and Miami Marlins' Tanner Scott. Lauber also noted that Philadelphia hoped to add a reliever in the offseason but instead pivoted to landing one at the deadline.

Estévez, in his second season with the Angels, has 32 strikeouts, 20 saves and a career-best 2.38 ERA this season. Finnegan has similar numbers with 44 strikeouts, 28 saves and a 2.32 ERA.

Scott has been one of the best relievers in the majors this season with 51 strikeouts, 18 saves, a 1.21 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP. The Marlins are also clear sellers looking to build for the future amid a 37-66 season, so the Phillies could land Scott by dealing a few prospects.

Philadelphia has the best record in the majors at 64-38, so any move made at the deadline will be to put it in a position to win in the fall. If the Phillies can add some depth to the bullpen, they could be on their way to a deep postseason run.
