Canelo Álvarez has lined up his next appearance in the boxing ring and will defend his undisputed super middleweight titles against Edgar Berlanga on Sept. 14 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The fight falls two days before Mexican Independence Day, and Álvarez has frequently scheduled his fights to take place during that weekend throughout his career. The fight against Berlanga will go head-to-head against UFC 306, which will also take place on Sept. 14 at the Sphere in Las Vegas.

Álvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Jaime Munguía in May. It was his fourth straight win after returning to super middleweight following his failed attempt to get past Dmitry Bivol for the WBA light heavyweight title in May 2022.

Berlanga is an undefeated prospect with a 22-0 record and 17 knockouts. He most recently defeated Padraig McCrory by sixth-round TKO in February.

Many had been hoping to see Álvarez face rising star David Benavidez, who improved to 29-0 last month by defeating Oleksandr Gvozdyk to claim the WBC interim light heavyweight title. Álvarez has resisted the potential matchup because of Benavidez's size and youth but recently said he'd be willing to face him for the right price.

"We'll see, why not? If the money is correct, why not," Alvarez said during an appearance on ESPN's First Take in May.

For now, fans will have to wait for Alvarez to get past Berlanga before dreaming about a matchup against Benavidez again.
