Bengals' Joe Burrow Explains Viral Blond Buzzcut, Says He 'Got Bored' with His Hair

Tyler Conway

Joe Burrow is apparently hoping the Cincinnati Bengals will be an American Nightmare for opposing defenses this season.

The Bengals quarterback arrived to training camp rocking a bleached buzzcut, which some fans say bears a striking resemblance to WWE superstar Cody Rhodes.

"I got bored, that's about it," Burrow told reporters Wednesday when asked why he switched up his hair.

Others noted a resemblance to Slim Shady-era Eminem:

Regardless, it's clear Burrow came to Bengals camp Tuesday with the intention of making headlines.

His eye-popping hairdo could help provide a distraction as Burrow attempts to work his way back onto the field after last year's season-ending wrist injury. Burrow was limited to 10 games and threw for a career-low 2,309 yards and 15 touchdowns against six interceptions last season.

The Pro Bowler's recovery has been slow, as he was shut down during the offseason amid soreness in the wrist and was just recently cleared for full contact. Burrow's wrist injury is rare for a quarterback, so it bears watching how he holds up.

If Burrow is truly 100 percent healthy, this could be the first time in his career he will have a full, complete training camp. Burrow missed nearly all of camp last year with a calf strain, underwent an emergency appendectomy in 2022, was recovering from an ACL tear in 2021 and dealt with COVID-19 restrictions in 2020.

Perhaps a little bit of bleach and a newly shaved head will be the thing that allows Burrow to get through a camp unscathed.
