Buy or Sell Latest on CM Punk Return, Seth Rollins' SummerSlam Fate, More WWE Rumors

Chris Roling

Pro wrestling might be in a bit of a lull ahead of major events right now, but the rumor mill didn't get the memo.

Yes, WWE and AEW are in a slow burn to their next major events, headlined by SummerSlam, but the buzz and speculation continue to match the record temperatures this summer.

It takes but a small pass of the mill to see rumblings about major injury returns for two of the top Superstars in the game and some buzz around who or what might be added to a long-anticipated match for the hottest feud in pro wrestling.

To help fans keep up with all the noise, here's a sampling of the mill's hottest rumors and whether they should buy or sell on each.

Seth Rollins Joins Wrestling's Hottest Feud?

On paper, it feels safe to project that CM Punk and Drew McIntyre will finally get their big match at SummerSlam, with Seth Rollins lurking in the background to feud with the former at a later date.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio's Dave Meltzer (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats), WWE has no plans to add Rollins to a Punk-McIntyre match at SummerSlam to make it a triple-threat. WrestleVotes followed up by reporting that Rollins could be a special guest referee, though.

Easy buy.

Punk and McIntyre have orchestrated the best feud of the year while the Best in the World wasn't even medically cleared. Muddying up that must-see physical match by adding a third right now just wouldn't make sense.

Considering how personal the beef is amongst these three stars, the logical outcome seems to be Rollins playing a role in some capacity, or perhaps after the match is over, to set up that three-man showdown at a later date.

Rhea Ripley Return Status

Rhea Ripley is back...but how back?

Ripley recently returned in a bid to right the proverbial ship of The Judgment Day, namely taking aim at Liv Morgan while expressing disappointment with Dominik Mysterio.

But according to PW Insider (h/t Ortman), fans will want to cool expectations that she gets overly physical in the ring anytime soon—the report says she won't wrestle until SummerSlam.

This one makes sense in a way fans will vibe with, no doubt. Even if Ripley were 100 percent, there isn't much of a reason to have her in televised matches. This slow burn to SummerSlam was always going to be about building the feud and faction storyline, anyway.

And if how WWE has handled Punk-McIntyre while one of three two isn't cleared for a match is any sign, the story could benefit from it, too.

Latest on CM Punk Timeline

Speaking of Punk, it sounds like the pursuit of medical clearance is going well.

According to PW Insider (h/t Ortman), Punk has been doing in-ring work at the WWE Performance Center in an effort to get cleared.

That one tracks with the expected timing of his injury comeback and puts him ahead of schedule before SummerSlam in early August. It also vibes with what fans have seen in terms of his brief physicality over the last month or so when getting involved.

Barring something unexpected, it is reasonable for fans to expect that the clearance report makes its way public soon enough, perhaps right around the time WWE makes his match at the biggest event of the summer official.

Bron Breakker Gets a Title Shot?

It seems clear that WWE isn't going to waste any time with Bron Breakker.

The former standout has been all over WWE programming when it matters and that will apparently continue at the second-biggest event of the year.

According to Meltzer (h/t Ortman), Breakker will get a shot at Sami Zayn's intercontinental title at SummerSlam.

It's not just an easy buy—it's pretty exciting, too. Not only is the matchup in the ring and on the mic a good one, there isn't an easy way to tell which way WWE might go with the actual winner on such a big stage.

Zayn is beloved by fans, yet Breakker is impossible to ignore, so how WWE handles that and creates massive ripple-effects on the mid-card scene should be captivating. It makes for yet the latest buy in a stretch full of easily believable rumors as things gear up for the big summer event.

Verdict: Buying
