UFC's Jon Jones Pleads Not Guilty to Charges in Case Involving Sample Collector

UFC fighter Jon Jones pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor charges against him on Wednesday.

Damon Martin of MMA Fighting reported Jones pleaded not guilty to "a petty misdemeanor for assault and a misdemeanor for interference with communications following an alleged altercation with drug testing agents who visited his home back in March."

He entered the pleas during a virtual hearing in a New Mexico court.

Martin noted that Jones would face less than a year in jail and fines of up to $1,500 if he is convicted on both charges, which stem from the alleged March incident when agents for Drug Free Sport came to his house on behalf of the UFC's anti-doping agency to collect a sample.

According to the police report, one of the agents said Jones grabbed her phone and "started recording them" during an interaction that left her feeling "terrified" and afraid he "might hit her."

The agent said in the police report that Jones "appeared agitated" when he was offered the chance to provide a blood sample after he was unable to provide a urine one.

Jones denied the allegations in April.

"I was recently visited by testers while I was celebrating a birthday and taking a nap," he said. "Upon waking up, I was caught off guard by the unprofessionalism and protocol by one of the testers, which caused frustration leading me to use some profanity I regret. However, I want to emphasize that at no point did I threaten, get in anyone's face, raise my voice to anyone, or engage in any form of assault.

"It's unfortunate that false news has been spread without proper fact-checking. I want to assure you that I will vigorously defend myself against these baseless accusations. The truth is, the incident simply did not occur."

Martin reported that Jones was ordered to "avoid all contact" with the alleged victims and cannot possess firearms or consume drugs or alcohol as part of his continued release pending a trial that has yet to be scheduled.

Jones has not fought since he defeated Ciryl Gane in March 2023 and is recovering from a torn pectoral muscle.

Martin noted he is expected to face Stipe Miocic in a title fight in November at Madison Square Garden in New York.
